Northshore downs Ponchatoula

Northshore freshman Michael Lewis scored a double-double with 16 points and 15 rebounds, while adding four blocks in a 44-37 victory over Ponchatoula Tuesday in the district opener. Northshore is 2-13 this year.

Chris Ruiz tallied seven points, seven rebounds and four steals, while Keenan Harrison had seven points with two 3-pointers. Michael Duplessis scored six points and Archie Ambo grabbed eight boards.

FHS downed

by Hammond

Fontainebleau’s Bulldogs came up short falling to the Hammond Tornadoes 73-53 Tuesday at home in the District 7-5A opener for both clubs.

FHS (7-8) was led by Quin Cooper with 19 points and seven rebounds. Jason Green contributed 12 points.

Taylor Hanby chipped in with seven points, seven rebounds and blocked four shots. Gerald Gruenig delivered six rebounds for the Bulldogs. With Hammond leading 29-23 in the third quarter, the Tornadoes went on a 12-0 run hitting four 3-pointers, which was a key turning point in the game. Hammond made 10 treys in the game.

The Tornadoes outscored the Bulldogs 26-13 in the third quarter to take a 55-34 lead entering the fourth quarter.

Pearl River tops

Jewel Sumner

Pearl River’s Lonnie Hayes and Jacob Maxwell each had a double-double in an 86-73 victory over Jewel Sumner in non-district action held Tuesday at Sumner. PRHS is 6-8.

Hayes scored 14 points and made all seven of his shots, while cleaning the glass with 17 rebounds. Maxwell posted 21 points and registered 16 rebounds. Chris Simon finished with 18 points and dished out five assists. Jeremy Lang totaled 10 points and Eric Mavor contributed nine.

Salmen defeats Destrehan

Salmen’s Daron Populist scored a team-high 21 points in a 57-46-road victory over Destrehan Tuesday night in non-district play. The Spartans are 14-2.

R.J. Scott posted 15 points, while T.J. Price finished with 10 and Jared Harrison scored seven.

NCS defeats

Southern Lab

Northlake Christian School’s Wolverines downed the Southern Lab Kittens 56-41 Tuesday in the District 7-1A opener at NCS. Senior point guard Josh Ryan netted 15 points including four 3-pointers to spark the Wolverines to victory. Ryan connected on three treys in a row in the third quarter to trigger a 9-0 run.

Senior Alex Reed finished with 15 points and five blocks. Will Werner contributed 10 points with Carter Fitzgerald scoring seven points with a team-high 11 rebounds. Taylor Bazzell chipped in with six points for the Wolverines. NCS (8-6) led by as many as 19 points in the fourth quarter. The Wolverines are on the road Friday taking on the Archbishop Hannan Hawks in district play.

Archbishop Hannan falls to Desire Street

Archbishop Hannan’s Hawks were defeated by the Desire Street Academy Lions 61-56 Tuesday in the District 7-1A opener for both clubs. Hannan sophomore Eddie Laine led all scorers with 28 points followed by Josh Bono with 12. Chad Boihem added six and Ben Condon finished with five. Hannan is 5-7 on the season, while Desire Street picked up its first victory at 1-10.

Hannan’s down fall came at the foul line with the Hawks hitting on only 5-of-20 free throws. The Hawks led by six late in the first half, but the Lions went on an 8-0 run to take a 28-26 halftime lead.

Hannan battled back in the third quarter outscoring Desire Street 18-15 for a 44-43 lead. Hannan couldn’t hold on in the fourth quarter being outscored 18-12 to suffer the five-point loss.

First Baptist falls

to Reserve Christian

First Baptist’s Eagles lost to Reserve Christian, 68-37, in a district game held at home Tuesday. First Baptist (8-11) is 0-2 in district play with both losses coming to Reserve Christian. Caleb Earhart led First Baptist with 17 points and hit 7-of-9 from the free-throw line. Jonathan Fredricks tallied 12 points, all 3-pointers.

FHS defeats

Ben Franklin

Fontainebleau downed the Ben Franklin Falcons 72-43 in non-district play Friday in New Orleans behind Quin Cooper’s 16 points. Anders Grunditz and Taylor Hanby added 13 points each. FHS held a 30-21 halftime lead. The Bulldogs built a 49-34 third quarter lead before outscoring the Falcons 23-9 in the final period.
