NCS blanks

PJP II

Northlake Christian’s Wolverines remained in first place, blanking the Pope John Paul II Jaguars 3-0 Saturday in a match played at NCS.

Danny Haar netted an unassisted goal in the 24th minute to put the Wolverines on the board. NCS (12-4-3) moved its district record to 4-0, while PJP (8-7-2) is 2-2 in district play. The Wolverines held a 1-0 halftime lead. Zak Smith made it 2-0 with a goal about eight minutes into the second half. He headed in the goal from 12 yards out assisted by Sam Beck. Smith finished off the scoring with Beck being credited with his second assist. Kevin Pence took a free kick from near midfield. Beck headed the ball across to Smith, who volleyed the ball in the net for the 3-0 final. Freshman goalkeeper Jeffrey George was named the Wolverines’ top defender. He was credited with five saves including two big saves on breakaway attempts in the first half.

St. Paul’s

blanks MHS

St. Paul’s Wolves blanked the Mandeville Skippers 4-0 Saturday in a rescheduled district match played at Skipper Stadium. The teams battled to a scoreless first half.

SPS (12-4-1) upped its district mark to 7-1, trailing Fontainebleau by one game, going into yesterday’s road match with Slidell.  

St. Paul’s Adrian McInnis netted the Wolves’ first goal assisted by Scott Mayer. The two players then reversed their roles with Mayer tallying a goal off an assist from McInnis. Jordan Daigle made it 3-0 off an assist from McInnis. William Crawford finished off the scoring with an assist from Scott Mayer.

St. Paul’s winning goalkeeper Bryan Bowers posted four saves.  

FHS blanks Northshore

Fontainebleau’s Bulldogs remained in first place Friday blanking the Northshore Panthers 3-0 at the Dawg Pound. FHS (14-2-1) moved to 8-0 in district play, going into yesterday’s match with Covington.

FHS’ Sal Bavido put the Bulldogs on top with an unassisted goal in the 23rd minute. Peyton Adkins made it 2-0 tallying a goal in the 28th minute assisted by Bavido. Brad Montruil closed out the Bulldogs’ scoring with an unassisted tally three minutes into the second half. FHS goalkeeper Matt Harris was named the Bulldogs’ top defender.

FHS coach Budd Ditchendorf praised the play of his forwards.

“Northshore is well coached and always has some sort of plan to make you change your plan. At some point you have to go with your instincts and then impose your will on the opponent. That is what our forwards did in the match,” Ditchendorf said.

St. Paul’s blanks Hammond

St. Paul’s Wolves shutout the Hammond Tornadoes 4-0 Friday in a match played at Hunter Stadium in Covington.

SPS’ Seth Hagan, Blake Sellers, Jon Fogarty and Juan Amaya tallied one goal each for the Wolves. St. Paul’s Bryan Bowers posted the shutout along with Michael Gegenheimer, who played the final 15 minutes of the match. St. Paul’s held a 2-0 halftime advantage. Mark Caragliano was named the Wolves outstanding defensive player. Hammond goalie Brandon Thomas recorded 21 saves and Eric Richard was named the Tornadoes’ top defender. Hammond had a player injured with no substitutes on the bench and played down a man for the last 12 minutes of the game. 

CHS blanks Ponchatoula

Covington’s Fighting Lions blanked the Ponchatoula Green Wave 2-0 Friday in a district match played at Ponchatoula. Chris Cassaday and Stephen Baudean scored the Lions’ goals with Phil McKee and Brandon Rowbatham credited with assists. It was Cassaday’s team-leading 16th goal. Luke Baudean was named the Lions top defender.

The game was scoreless at the half.

CHS (11-5-1) evened its district record at 4-4 heading into yesterday’s road match at Fontainebleau.

CHS coach Jimmy Inman said his club was able to gain control of the midfield as Ronald Garay, Alan Didier and Austin Inman played well.

“The defense was rock solid and not tested as much in the second half as both Luke and Stephen Baudean stopped the Ponchatoula attack cold, Inman said.

Mandeville defeats Slidell

Mandeville’s Aaron Noelke scored two goals and Logan Sullivan tallied a goal and dished out three assists in a 4-1 victory over the Slidell Tigers during a district match held Friday at SHS. Chris Campbell scored the other Skippers’ goal and Derek Brown was named MHS’ top defender.The Tigers (1-8-1) were 0-8 in district play at Tuesday’s press time.

Slidell’s goal came from Kevin Roe with an assist from Trevon Poole. Cody Leake was named the Tigers’ top defender.

Pearl River beats East Jefferson

Pearl River’s Vincent Piazza scored two goals and an assist in a 4-1 victory over East Jefferson in a district game held last Tuesday at PRHS.

Kevin Dancer and Justin Fowler also posted netters for the Rebels.

Girls

FHS tops Northshore

Fontainebleau’s Lady Bulldogs defeated the Northshore Lady Panthers 4-1 Friday at the Dawg Pound behind Kaley Blanton’s two goals. Hannah Leumas and Lauren Ritch scored one goal each for the Lady Bulldogs.

FHS (12-1) remained unbeaten in district play at 8-0, heading into yesterday’s road match with Covington. Northshore (6-4) was 4-4 in district at Tuesday’s press time.

FHS named Sydney Robbins its top defender, while Kaitlyn Villars was the winning goalkeeper. FHS took 22 shots on goal, while NHS got off 11.

Sarah Bonura scored Northshore’s goal on an assist by Leland Emory. Lindsay Boos was named the Lady Panthers’ top defender.
