Harbison wins at-large Slidell City Council seat

Published on Saturday, April 4, 2009 9:30 PM CDT

Kim Harbison was elected to the at-large seat on the Slidell City Council today during a special election.

Harbison, who currently represents District F, beat fellow City Council member Ray Canada (District E) in the election held to replace the late Kevin Kingston, who died last summer.

Harbison won 1,325 to 1,115 votes, or 54 percent to 46 percent.

The at-large council member represents the entire city.

Both city council members are in their second terms in their respective seats, and under the city charter they are term limited. The current term expires in 2010.

The council will have to appoint someone to fill the vacancy created in District F. The appointee will serve until the end of the term but will not be able to run in the next election.

" At least he came to your door, we have never seen Kim Harbison in our neighborhood at all. I hope she does good for Slidell, I have yet to see what good she has done for our district F. "

" How did Canada get elected in the first place. He came to my door asking for my vote. The most arrogant snob I have ever encountered. "
