Schools not threatened, testing to continue in East

No schools in the Pearl River area have been threatened by the rising floodwaters, and all children were able to be picked up by school buses yesterday morning, said St. Tammany Parish School System spokesperson Meredith Mendez. She said it was not known what problems, if any, would be encountered after the river crested and students returned home.

Design for new school presented

Leslie Martin, principal of the new kindergarten and first-grade school in Mandeville, presented results of a survey for the name of the new school — Marigny Elementary School, to the School Board’s committee as a whole for business affairs and administration Thursday. In addition, the proposed mascot is the starfish and proposed colors are light blue and red. The proposal was approved by the committee and recommended for acceptance at the regular school board meeting Thursday.
