Two men were robbed at gunpoint while standing in the front yard of a house on Walnut Street Monday night according to Slidell police.

According to police spokesman, Capt. Kevin Foltz, the two Hispanic men were in front of a house in the 700 block of Walnut Street around 9 p.m. when they were approached by three African-American men who asked one of the victims for a cigarette. The third suspect stood behind the tree during the incident according to the victims.

One of the suspects pointed a gun at the victims, while the other suspect took one victim’s wallet, and $26 in cash from the other victim. The gunman then fired off one shot into the air and all three fled on foot, Foltz said.

With the help of a translator, police were able to get a description of two of the three suspects. The gunman was described as being 5-foot 6-inches tall with a thin build, and was last seen wearing a white shirt and gray shorts. The other suspect is described as being 6-feet tall, thin build and last seen wearing a white T-shirt, jeans, and a red hat. The victims could not describe the third person, because he stood behind the tree during the robbery.

Foltz said that officers and the K-9 unit searched the neighborhood, but were unable to locate the suspects. He said police do not know the legal status of the victims.
