The 25 nurses in the St. Tammany Parish School System were honored Thursday night with a resolution supporting National School Nurse Day on May 6, 2009 for everything they do for the students in the parish.
The resolution states that the school board acknowledges the care and contributions being made to the overall development of our children by school nurses and expresses the gratitude and appreciation for the expertise in their role as professionals.
Aside from bandaging skinned knees, nursing professionals in the school system help screen students for various conditions and refer them to physicians when needed. At the meeting, the nurses were presented with a red rose, symbolizing a heart, and Life Savers, because “that’s what you are,” said Administrative Supervisor Cathy Aime of the St. Tammany parish School Board.
Nurses recognized during the school board meeting include: Donna Autin, Darlene Bertrand, Deborah Boudreaux, Sharon Broussard, Cindy Bruch, Susan Eisman, Cheri Escarra, Lauren Giessinger, Kathy Gill, Winnie Goodwin, Stephanie Guillot, Miriam Heintz, Pam Huente, Kim Kirby, Debbie Mendow, Becky Miller, Susan Miller, Tachael Moore, Barbara Pendergraft, Pat Reynolds, Jennifer Segrave, Beth Strain, Pat Talmage, Anne Thrasher and Della Volz.
