Stop, drop and roll. These words are second nature for many adults as to what should be done in the event of a fire. On Saturday, the Covington Fire Department will hold its second “Stop, Drop, Rock N Roll” gala to raise money and awareness for fire prevention education for children and the elderly.

Covington fire investigator Joe Ard said there will be fun and entertainment for children and adults, including the smoke house, where children can learn how to get out of a house on fire.

Other activities include DARE information and a kids’ ID program where parents can get a picture of their child and provide other identification information in case of an emergency.

Ard said there will also be a spacewalk inflatable bounce house and other fun activities for children.

The festivities will begin with the Haulin’ Ash 1-mile race at 8:30 a.m., followed by the 5K race. Both will take place beginning at Bogue Falaya Park. Entry fees are $8 for children 16 and under and $18 for 17 years and older with a maximum of $55 per family. Race day entrants are not guaranteed T-shirts; shirts will be available two weeks after the race. For more information about the race, call Diane Weiss at 893-3684 or Karen Whiteside at 705-7968.

Festivities continue at the park all day with featured bands Four Unplugged, Animal Krackers, Bottoms Up and Bag O Donuts. At 10 p.m., fireworks will mark the end of the day.

There will also be a children’s art contest displayed in the Pavilion and an antique car show. Tickets are $5, and children 4 and under enter free.
