Voters told two recreation districts in St. Tammany Parish Saturday that they will not pay millage taxes to support recreation facilities in the district.

Recreation District 2 officials near Bush wanted voters to renew a 3-mill property tax to operate a gymnasium, and baseball fields at their facility on Watts-Thomas Road. But voters resoundingly turned thumbs down to the proposal by voting 144 votes, or 70 percent against the proposal. Only 62 voters or 30 percent voted for the millage.

District 6 north of Covington on Lee Road needed to renew a 6-mill property tax to help pay for the Johnny F. Smith Memorial Park, which was opened in April. The tax would have gone to building a recreational complex in the park that would include baseball fields and hiking trials. That proposal failed by 51.9 percent or 213 votes against the millage and 197 or 48.05 percent voting for the proposal.
