Officials with the St. Tammany Parish Department of Environmental Services and the Honey Island Group of the Sierra Club thanks everyone who helped to make the Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day March 28 such a success.

During the three-hour event, 394 vehicles dropped off materials from 534 households.

Materials collected for proper disposal and recycling included: 39,514 pounds of paint, 4,069 pounds of batteries, 354 linear feet of fluorescent light bulbs, 170 cell phones, 210 used tires, 8 pounds of mercury devices and 24,494 pounds of televisions, computers and other electronics.

Also partnering with St. Tammany Parish were the City of Slidell, Keep Slidell Beautiful, Waste Management, and the Capitol Area Corporate Recycling Council. More than 74 volunteers helped with the effort.

Participating vendors were Colt, Inc.; The Green Project; LEI; GRC Wireless Recycling; Rineco; Progressive Imaging Consultants; and Waste Management with CACRC.
