Vouchers available for new spay/neuter program

The St. Tammany Parish Department of Animal Services is expanding its Prevent Another Litter Program.

This new program will make vouchers available to all citizens of St. Tammany Parish good toward a discounted spay or neuter of a pet.

This program was made possible through a generous grant from the ASPCA, PetSmart Charities, United Animal Nations, the International Fund for Animal Welfare, and the Humane Society of the United States.

The program is one of three in St. Tammany Parish. The other two programs are either free or reduced cost, and aim to help families on public assistance or who fall within certain income guidelines. The voucher program is available to all St. Tammany residents, regardless of income.

Brochures are available at the Department of Animal Services Shelter at 31078 Louisiana Highway 36 in Lacombe, and at many area veterinarians. An application form for all three programs is available online at www.stpgov.org.

“We are very thankful to PetSmart Charities for this grant,” said Animal Services Director Melisa Piwetz. “Making reduced cost spays and neuters available to pets for all citizens in St. Tammany will go a long way to reduce the overall euthanasia rate, which is one of our constant goals.”

The Department of Animal Services can be reached at 882-4454.

" Thank you PetSmart. I always buy my very high cost pet food at PetSmart and dread every minute of it. But I do also contribute the extra buck at checkout in hopes that something good does come from it. Maybe it does. "
