What is your name? Sandra Frederick.

Where do you teach? Folsom Elementary School.

What subjects do you teach? Title I Computer Lab.

What is your favorite thing about the subject you teach? Being able to utilize technology to teach skills. The computer opens up so many opportunities to teach skills in a variety of ways.

How long have you been a teacher? Twenty-five years.

How has the profession of teaching changed since you started? Technology has become a huge component of teaching. Also, teachers now have an unlimited amount of resources available to supplement their instruction.

Why did you become a teacher? To teach children. As a child, I loved my teachers and thought that what they were doing was the most wonderful thing in the world. I wanted to do what they were doing—teach.

What is your favorite thing about teaching? Seeing the “light bulbs come on.” Knowing that a child truly understands what you have taught because he/she can apply that knowledge to new situations.

Do you do anything special in the classroom to get through to your students? Try to be the best teacher I can, every day.

What is the hardest part of your job? Keeping up with all of the new technology. It is something that changes almost daily.

Are you involved in any extra curricular activities at the school? I am coordinator of the tutoring programs during school and before/ after school; LEAP Testing Coordinator; serve on the School Improvement Plan Committee; and serve on the Title I Budget Committee.

Do you utilize any special technology in the classroom? The Promethean Board.

Have you received any grants to aid you in the classroom? No

What do you do during your summer vacations? Work in my yard and spend time with my husband, children, and grandchildren

Do you aspire to become a principal one day? No.
