In what Covington police are describing as “one of the worst cases of child abuse in the department’s history,” a 19-year-old Covington man has been arrested and charged with physically abusing a month-old infant girl.

Covington police spokesman Capt. Jack West said Eric Crowe, 19, 416 E. Rutland St., Apartment 103, was arrested Friday morning after police conducted a two-week investigation of child abuse allegations.

West said the investigation started when the baby was admitted to the Tulane Hospital in New Orleans to be treated for seizures. While examining the baby, doctors found evidence of child abuse. Covington police were contacted, and they questioned Crowe and the baby’s mother.

West would not say what injuries were done to the baby to protect the identity of the child and her mother, but doctors told police the injuries happened at different times, and that some of the injuries showed signs of healing. West said the baby is recovering from her injuries.

Crowe was arrested on two counts of second-degree cruelty to a juvenile, booked and put in the St. Tammany Parish Jail. West said if Crowe is convicted, he could face 80 years in prison because each count is punishable by 40 years in jail.

" I have had to make a lot of tough choices in my life, most within seconds. I have had a lot of temptations in my life, some were really tough choices. But I have never had to make a choice like this sick individual has made, several times. I couldn't imagine what animal would have a temptation like this.

I have seen Eric on a couple occasions being questioned by police.

Lets hope the District Attorney’s Office doesn’t treat this like the fake robbery and throw the case out because there is not enough evidence. "

" Broomhilda wake up. This young lady was abusing a little baby. The CPD conducted a two week investigation into this matter, this arrest was not made on emotion, it was made based on evidence. "

" R. Side, He has not been found guilty and the burden of proof is on the prosecution. I knew of a case that had nothing to do with this and did not go the way people thought it was going to go.

So dont jump to conclusions and point fingers, because when you do there are three more pointing right back at you. "
