Ice cream shop holding scavenger hunt Saturday By Anne LautzenheiserSt. Tammany News Saturday is your chance to get to know Slidell, get some free goodies and maybe have a chat with Slidell Mayor Ben Morris at Blizzard Beach Ice Cream Shop. From 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., the shop is hosting a scavenger hunt that will take participants to various shops, restaurants and other local points of interest around the city. According to owner Christy Jolicoeur, the event started as a way to draw customers, but quickly grew into something more. “I realized after I decided to do the hunt that there was a lot I didn’t know about Slidell,” said Jolicoeur. “I know where to go to ‘make groceries’ or see a movie, but I wondered where I could find out about the history of Slidell.” Jolicoeur said by the time the hunt is over, most participants will know a little bit more about the city. Morris has agreed to be a “point of interest” on the hunt. He will be available 11 a.m. to noon for photos and general socializing. Blizzard Beach offers 32 flavors of hand-dipped ice cream, eight flavors of soft serve ice cream, as well as a variety of non- or reduced-fat frozen soft serve yogurt with different flavors featured daily. The shop is located at 2040 East Gause Blvd. and hours are Monday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Tuesday through Thursday 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., Friday and Saturday 10 a.m. to 11 p.m., and Sunday 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. For more information call 641-7717. |
