Thursday, a federal grand jury in New Orleans indicted Cody Callender, 23, of Slidell for possession of a firearm by a person who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence and possession of an unregistered sawed-off shotgun, according to U.S. Attorney Jim Letten.

Covington police arrested Callender Feb. 9, 2009, because he was allegedly in possession of a Mossberg 500AT 12-gauge shotgun that had been modified. The U.S. Attorney’s Office said the firearm was not registered to Callender as was required by law.

Callender was convicted of domestic violence Feb. 6, 2005 in the 22nd Judicial District Court in St. Tammany Parish.

A check of the St. Tammany Clerk of Court Web site, shows Callender has also been arrested for disturbing the peace, fighting, battery, second-degree battery, and domestic abuse of a pregnant women and domestic abuse child endangerment.

If convicted on the two federal gun charges, Callender could face up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine, plus three years of supervised release at the end of the prison term.

That's a new one on me. People get arrested all the time for things they didn't do so I give people the benefit of the doubt. In other words, there are plenty of SCUMBAGS that have never been arrested before and vice-versa. I hope this guy cleans up his act. "

" Even I recognize this individual is a human being. I am sure he is nice to those he likes, and have no doubt he has some good qualities, but that does not mean he needs to walking around law abiding citizens. He needs a little more time behind bars to consider his behavior, maybe then his good qualities will overcome his perpencity to participate in petty crimes. "

" If it walks like a duck, talks like a duck, and does duck tricks it is probably a duck. Those who constantly find themselves in the middle of trouble, even though it is never their fault may want to consider changing the people they hang around with, or not participating in a life style that encourages misbehavior. " For one he is a GREAT person and it always seems as if trouble comes his way and he is in the middle of it all. I'm not saying he is a perfect person and does no wrong, but for the record I know what happened the day of the GUN charge and it is NOT Cody Callender. No matter wht our relation is he did not do wrong tht day. So who needs to know he has done time in jail for all the above, if it makes u feel better. "

    " Dear needtoknow
It is obvious you are defending a family member or friend. I find that an honorable trait, even though he appears on the surface that he is not a good person. Even bad people have some good traits, espcially when dealing with family or friends.
I am sure he appreciates your support. "

" How can anyone comment on an issuse that comes from the paper and not even know that person. The paper is not always right! For anyones info. he is not a Slidell man, not even from Slidell! How does the paper have info. about this man and the man they are talking about has no clue wht is going on? "

" It appears this gentleman has made a habit of commiting violent crimes against women, fighting, and child endagerment, but no mention of time spent in jail. I support our rights to own firearms, but this guy should not own one. Maybe a little time behind bars will encourage him to act like a normal person and stop getting in trouble. Our courts should get stricter when they are frequented by individuals such as Mr. Callender. "
