Scalise gets funds for parish pond

Congressman Steve Scalise said he has successfully included $500,000 for the St. Tammany Parish Bayou Chinchuba Regional Retention project into the FY 2010 Interior and Environment Appropriations Bill.

“This project will help reduce flooding risks for more than 20,000 residents of St. Tammany Parish,” Scalise said. “Funding for this project is not at the finish line yet, but it is very encouraging to see it moving forward.”

Funding would be used to create an on-line retention pond at the western intersection of Bayou Chinchuba and U.S. Highway 190.

The project goal will be to reduce floodwater heights in order to reduce the risk of home, street, and highway flooding in the Oaks, Oak Island, Wing Haven, Laurelwood and Timber Creek subdivisions, Henry Miners Road, Heritage Heights Subdivision, Lotus Road Mandeville Annex Subdivision and Pineview Road.

The bill, with the flood protection money included by Scalise, was approved by the Interior and Environment Subcommittee and will now go to the full House Appropriations Committee.

Congressman Scalise worked with Parish President Kevin Davis to submit this funding request.
