LSU continues College World Series quest
The LSU Tigers (53-16), the top ranked team in the nation, returns to action this afternoon in the College World Series at Johnny Rosenblatt Stadium in Omaha, Neb., going against Southeastern Conference foe Arkansas (41-23). The Razorbacks edged Virginia 4-3 in 12 innings Wednesday to advance against LSU in a Bracket One game. The 11th game of the World Series gets underway at one o’clock.

Tulane's Garrett signs free agent contract
Tulane Green Wave senior right-handed pitcher Jonathan Garrett signed a free agent contract with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Tuesday. Garrett, a 2004 St. Paul’s graduate and former Wolves’ pitcher, went 5-4 in his senior season, posting a 5.91 earned run average. He finished the year tied for third on the team in strikeouts with 45 over his 56 and a third innings of work.

Capital One (Fontainebleau High) battled Anytime Fitness (Pearl River High) Thursday night at the Bone Yard, securing an exciting 3-2 come-from-behind victory in 10 innings. Capital One (11-2) earned its sixth consecutive victory. Earlier in the summer they had a five-game winning streak after losing their first contest.

The Slidell Sox, an eight-year old Slidell Bantam Baseball Association Team, erased a four-run deficit, and Sean Price got the game-winning hit, to help the Sox capture the United States Specialty Sports Association All-Star State Tournament 14-13 over the PAC Thunder, located on the Westbank. The game took place Sunday in St. Francisville.

The Louisiana Knights 18s had a successful Tulane Invitational winning four out of five games played led by the hot bat of Garrett Cannizaro (.373), who went 6-11 with a homer and five doubles, while driving in six runs. He also walked twice.

Sheriff and Slidell police on the hunt for armed robber
The armed robber, who is suspected of two armed robberies last week on Brownswitch Road and Robert Boulevard in Slidell, is also suspected for the robbery of the Blockbuster Video store at the corner of Gause Boulevard and Military Road Wednesday afternoon.
