Thomas Pump beats Salmen

Thomas Pump (Slidell High) overcame a 5-1 first-inning deficit, highlighted by a six-run third in an 18-10 victory over Salmen Wednesday at SHS.

Thomas Pump was 2-5 at Thursday’s press time with Salmen at 3-5.

Seven of the nine Thomas Pump starters had two hits and the team finished with 17. Gary Daubert tallied three hits with three runs batted in. Wes Abney posted two hits and two RBIs, while Cameron Charbonnet and Tré Wiebelt each went 2-5 with two RBIs. Charbonnet also got the win, throwing three and two-thirds innings of no-hit ball, with two strikeouts and three walks. Dixon Faciane, Adam Lagarde and Darien Guavera registered two hits each.

Salmen’s Dimitri Willis went 3-4 with a run scored. Jeremy Breland, Tanner Dunham, Mitchell Ginesi, Brandon Hatcher and Justin Viger all had one hit. Breland and Dunham drove in a run apiece. Eric Cochran suffered a loss in relief.

Pevey Realtors clinch Division

Elisha Settoon stopped Post 16 (Archbishop Hannan) 11-1 on six hits and Dylan Meyers went 4-4 with four runs batted in, including a walk off homer in the sixth-inning as Pevey Realtors (Ponchatoula High) clinched the West Division of American Legion Sixth District East Tuesday at Athletic Park.

Pevey Realtors (7-4) moved to 3-0 in the west division play to earn a berth in the American Legion Southeast Regional tournament slated for Athletic Park July 11-15.

Pevey’s Settoon (2-1 with three saves) worked all six innings, allowing only one unearned run with five strikeouts and a walk. Pevey pounded out 12 hits breaking open a tight game with four runs in the third and five in the fourth. After a scoreless first inning, Pevey tallied a run in the second off Post 16 starter Logan Booksh, who went the distance. Kaleb Kraft singled and later scored on Darrin Bach’s ground out.

Post 16 tied the score in the third as Booksh’s fly ball was muffed by the left fielder and with two outs Eddie Laine singled him home.

Pevey tallied four runs in their half of the third to take a 5-1 lead. Pevey later plated five runs with Dylan Meyers doubling home two runs. Settoon collected an RBI double and Justin Crowell singled in a run. Crowell later scored on a sacrifice fly by Randall Meyers to make it 10-1.

Post 16’s Andrew Arceneaux had a pair of singles, while Laine, Dylan Manichia, Christian Clark and Bubba Tomberlin each contributed singles.

Capital One

takes twin bill

Capital One (Fontainebleau High) swept a doubleheader from Springfield High School Tuesday on the road in American Legion East Sixth District East Division play. Capital One (10-2) took the opener 6-1 and the nightcap 15-2. Capital One’s Ryan Casassa (3-0) pitched a complete game, three-hitter with seven strikeouts and a walk to garner the victory. In 18 innings of work, Casassa has not allowed any earned runs, while registering 24 strikeouts. Capital One’s James Cousin (.321) went 2-3 with two runs batted in and scored twice in the opener. Anthony LaGuardia (.316) and Logan Peterson (.435) drove in one run each. Capital One scored in the second with David Fiegel (.406) walking and stealing second and third. He scored on Cousin’s sac fly. Capital One tallied twice in the fourth. Andrew Patin (.423) walked, but was forced out at second on Fiegel’s grounder. Cousin singled to advance Fiegel to third. Cousin stole second and Fiegel scored on the throw. Cousin tallied on LaGuardia’s fielder’s choice.

Springfield notched its only run in the fifth to make it 3-1. Capital One added two more runs in the sixth. Fiegel reached on an error and Cousin doubled him home. Cousin stole home for a 5-1 lead. Jacob Palmisano (.389) singled in the seventh and eventually scored on Peterson’s RBI single.

In the nightcap, Capital One scored four runs in the first en-route to the 15-2 victory. Cousin went 3-3 with a single, double and triple, driving in four runs. He also scored twice. Andrew Brown drove in three runs and scored once. Casassa delivered a hit and drove in two. After Capital One’s quick start, Springfield answered to make it 4-1. Capital One tallied three more runs in the third and a seven spot in the fourth. Cousin came through with an RBI double in the third. Addison Melancon drove in a run in the fourth with an RBI double, scoring Tanner Watson, who had walked. Patin singled home Melancon and Cousin connected for a run scoring triple, plating Patin for his fourth RBI. Andrew Brown had a two-run single, scoring Cousin and Adam Hines, who had walked and stolen second. Brown swiped second and ended up scoring on a throwing error. Starter Shane Mullen (1-1) went three innings for the victory, giving up three hits with three strikeouts and a walk. Reliever Harrison Little went two innings, giving up three hits, while posting four strikeouts.

Northshore tops LLOG Exploration

Northshore’s Panthers defeated LLOG Exploration (Mandeville High) 6-4 at Ned Eades Field Tuesday. NHS’ Chris Miller recorded two hits, including a two-run homer. Ryan LeBlanc had an RBI double. Winning pitcher Jacob Corbin (2-0) threw five and one-third innings, allowing three runs on one hit with 10 strikeouts, three walks and a hit batter. Codey Miller relieved Corbin and posted the save.

LLOG Exploration’s Ross Borrello tallied a run-scoring single in the first. Josh D’Arcangelo hit an RBI double in the sixth and Jonathan Baham delivered a run producing single in the inning. Nick Del Valle collected an RBI with Lee Batchelder taking the loss.

Salmen tops Peake BMW

Salmen’s Spartans defeated Peake BMW (St. Paul’s) 9-4 Tuesday led by Justin Viger, who went 3-4 with a two run homer and two doubles with four runs batted in. He also scored twice. Salmen starter Brandon Hatcher earned the win with a complete game, seven-hitter. He also collected two hits and scored two runs. Dimitri Lewis, Mitchell Ginesi and Jeremy Breland all had one hit. Trailing 2-0, Salmen plated seven runs in the top of the fifth. Peake BMW made it a 7-4 game, scoring single runs in the fifth and sixth. Salmen closed out the scoring with two runs in the seventh. Peake BMW’s Dylan Long went 2-3 with an RBI and scored once. Christian Spansel doubled and scored, while Tanner Rainey was 1-2 with a sacrifice and drove in a run. Cody Faucheaux (0-1) was tagged with the loss.

Covington High falls to Ponstein’s

Covington High was defeated by Ponstein’s (Holy Cross) 13-3 Monday at Jimmy “Doc” Davis Field. CHS was limited to three hits. Tyler Nicholson had an RBI, while Payden Lynch double and scored a run. Trey Fortner and Blake Taylor picked up singles to account for the other two Lions’ hits. CHS starter Billy Johnson (1-2) took the loss. Dexter Thompson, Derek Hoffman and Colin Knight pitched in relief.
