American Legion Post 16 downs Springfield

American Legion Post 16 (Archbishop Hannan) defeated Springfield High 5-2 on the road Thursday with Christian Clark picking up the victory with six innings of work in American Legion action. Clark (2-1) gave up two runs (one earned) in the first inning, while scattering five hits en-route to the victory. Clark also had an RBI double in the third inning. Shortstop Dylan Manichia relieved Clark in the seventh inning, giving up one hit. Manichia drove in three runs for the Hawks. Stuart Seiler went 2-4, scored twice, including a steal of home. Post 16 (6-6) moved to 3-3 in legion play, while Springfield (0-7) fell to 0-5 in legion play.

Post 16 took a 2-0 lead in the first with Springfield tying the game in the bottom half of the inning. Post 16 tallied once in the third and pushed across two runs in the fourth to secure the three-run victory.

Springfield’s Seth King (0-1) took the loss. King collected a double and Tony Patrick had an RBI single in the first inning.

Laneco Construction

tops Pevey Realtors

Laneco Construction (Pope John Paul II) pitcher Bobby Mayfield silenced Pevey Realtors (Ponchatoula High) on five hits, three infield singles, as Laneco Construction toppled Pevey, 6-4, Thursday in an American Legion action at Athletic Park.

Laneco Construction is (6-4) is 4-3 in legion play. Pevey fell to 7-5 overall and 5-2 in district. Pevey couldn’t get its bats going against Mayfield, who struck out four and walked three in six innings of work. Connor Olivier worked the last inning to pick up the save.

Laneco Construction jumped out to a 4-0 first-inning lead off of Pevey Realtors’ starter Darrin Bach, who suffered the loss. Ross Macaluso walked, and Blake Bonnaffons reached on an error by the left fielder. Alex Ramirez drove Macaluso home with a sacrifice fly before Mayfield doubled and Andre Damiens blasted a three-run homer.

Pevey cut the lead to 4-3 in the third. Brett Vampran, Dylan Meyers and Elisha Settoon walked to load the bases. Justin Crowell then drove home Vampran with a ground out before Randall Meyers tallied Zach Traylor, running for Dylan Meyers, and Settoon with a bloop single to center.

Laneco Construction pushed its lead to 6-3 in the fourth with a two-out rally. Matt Navarro reached on a dropped fly ball to the outfield before Dustin Dampier singled and Jacob Hughes, who tallied two hits, cleaned the bases with a double. Pevey trimmed the lead to 6-4 in the sixth when Kaleb Kraft tripled to center and Jake Lipps drove pinch runner Mark Traylor home with an infield single. Olivier came on in the seventh to shut down Pevey without run.

Lipps led Pevey with a pair of infield hits while Hills, Kraft and Randall Meyers each had one hit.

Northlake Gastroenterology trims Oak Forest

Northlake Gastroenterology (Northlake Christian School) pounded out 13 hits Thursday night to take an 8-6 road victory over Oak Forest in Northshore Summer Baseball League play. Brandon Cazaubon (2-1) pitched a complete game to take the six-inning victory. Cazaubon scattered nine hits with four strikeouts and one walk. Cazaubon also helped himself at the plate, going 2-4 with two runs batted in. Jared Duckworth went 3-4 with a run batted in and scored once. Chris Craighead collected two hits and two walks, scoring twice, while Grant McGovern drove in two runs with a hit. Timmy Broussard and Josh Favaloro both collected two hits each and scored one run. Catcher Jordy Bloodsworth had a hit and threw out three base runners. He threw out one runner attempting to steal second and picked off a runner at first and another at second throwing behind the runners. Carter Fitzgerald was credited with an RBI on a ground out and courtesy runner Derek Williams tallied two runs for the victors. Assistant coach Tommy Bazzell filled in for coach Rowland Skinner, who was out of town, and guided the club to the victory. His record as a head coach moved to 3-0.

“We did enough to win. We stroked the ball pretty well late in the game,” Bazzell said.

Northlake Gastroenterology (5-3) came back from a 5-3 deficit, punching across two runs in the fifth and three in their final at bat to take the victory.
