Butera leads 10-hit attack, going 3-5 with two runs batted in for victory

LLOG Exploration (Mandeville High) defeated Capital One (Fontainebleau High) 9-2 Monday at the Bone Yard in Northshore Summer Baseball League play with shortstop Blake Butera going 3-5 with two runs batted in and scored once. Westley LaBorde went 2-4 with an RBI, scored a run and stole a base to help spark the victory.

LLOG Exploration starter Jonathan Baham (2-1) went four and a third innings to gain the victory. He allowed two earned runs on four hits. Reliever Ross Borrello did a nice job, tossing two and two-thirds scoreless innings, while giving up just two hits with three strikeouts.

Capital One starter Ryan Casassa went two innings replaced by Harrison Little (2-1), who closed the final five innings. Little gave up three earned runs on six hits with three strikeouts.

LLOG Exploration coach Matt Brown said it was a good team effort with solid pitching.

“Our pitchers threw the ball well. They were able to get outs when they needed to,” Brown said.

LLOG Exploration (5-3) pushed across a run in the top of the second with Capital One (11-3) answering with two runs in the home half of the inning.

LLOG Exploration’s Josh Goodwin reached on an error and was singled home by Tyler Aymond.

Capital One’s David Fiegel walked and Matt Ernst singled him to third. Ernst stole second and Will Ward walked to load the bases. Andrew Brown drew a walk to force in Fiegel to tie the game at 1-1. Following a strikeout, Anthony LaGuardia reached after being hit by a pitch, scoring Ernst for a one run lead.

LLOG Exploration regained the lead with five runs in the third. Lee Batchelder walked and Borrello was safe on an error. Goodwin followed with a single to load the bases. Zack Liberto hit into a fielder’s choice grounder, scoring Batchelder. LaBorde singled home Borrello to make it 3-2. Michael Symms drew a bases loaded walk, forcing in Goodwin. Capital One’s Little replaced Casassa on the mound. Aymond hit into a fielder’s choice, plating Liberto. Josh D’Arcangelo produced an RBI sacrifice fly to right, scoring LaBorde to push the lead to 6-2.

LLOG Exploration finished off the scoring with three runs in the seventh. LaBorde singled with one out and Symms followed with a single. LaBorde scored on a wild pitch. Following a strikeout, D’Arcangelo doubled home Symms to push the lead to 8-2. Butera delivered an RBI double, scoring D’Arcangelo with the game’s final run.

Sheriff and Slidell police on the hunt for armed robber

The armed robber, who is suspected of two armed robberies last week on Brownswitch Road and Robert Boulevard in Slidell, is also suspected for the robbery of the Blockbuster Video store at the corner of Gause Boulevard and Military Road Wednesday afternoon.
