Knights 17/18s

The Louisiana Knights 17/18s bats continued to struggle as the Knights went 1-3 in the UNO Showcase Tournament over the weekend. The Knights 17/18s played poor defense in the opener committing nine errors, falling to Marucci Orange 18-6 in Saturday’s opener played in Baton Rouge.

Robert Boudreaux, Brady King, Randal Meyer and Justin Viger drove in one run each for the Knights as they were limited to seven singles in the loss. Boudreaux, King and Justin Vaughn had two hits each, while Keller Douglas chipped in with a single. Starter Cody Warford was tagged with the loss with Trey Marino and Seth Laigast pitching in relief.

The Knights 17/18s fell to Bullet Baseball 8-6 in Saturday’s second game. Michael Paul went 2-3 with a run batted in and scored twice. Matt Lipham went 2-2 with a run batted in. Vaughn and Viger collected two hits each, while driving in a run. Warford had a hit, drove in a run and scored once.

Starter Logan Peterson went three innings and took the loss. He gave up two earned runs on four hits. Meyer pitched four innings of relief, allowing one earned run on two hits with five strikeouts and three walks.

The Knights (5-15) turned the tables in Sunday’s opener played at University High, blanking Lugnutz 10-0 in four innings behind Randy LeBlanc’s one-hitter. LeBlanc (1-2) faced 16 batters in tossing the shutout. He registered seven strikeouts, walked three and hit a batter.

Viger wielded a hot bat, going 3-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Laigast, Paul, Peterson, Michael Pustanio and Warford drove in one run each in the victory. Keller Douglas and Paul both tallied two runs for the Knights.

In Sunday’s final game also played at University High, the Knights came up short, falling to the Louisiana Warriors 1-0 as the Knights were held to just two singles. Paul and Jacob Trapani picked up the hits. Boudreaux, started and took the loss. He went six strong innings (83 pitches), allowing just a solo homer, which was the difference in the game. He gave up just three hits. Vaughn pitched one inning and only surrendered one hit as he faced four batters.

Covington High edges Salmen

Covington High slipped past Salmen High 6-4 last Thursday after overcoming a 4-0 deficit in a game played at Jimmy (Doc) Davis Field. CHS’ Dexter Thompson went 2-3 with two runs batted in. Payden Lynch had one hit and drove in a run. Blake Taylor collected two hits and scored once. Billy Taylor started and went four innings, giving up three runs (two earned) on four hits. Ethan Stein relieved him and went one inning. Colin Knight picked up the victory with one inning of relief, while Daniel Thompson registered a save.

Salmen held a 4-0 lead before CHS tallied three runs in the bottom of the fifth and added three more runs in the sixth to take the victory.

Salmen’s Matt Lipham went 3-3 with four runs batted in on two doubles. Brandon Hatcher had a hit and scored twice for the Spartans, while Justin Viger doubled and scored a run. Starter Jason Hursey went four and two-third innings, allowing two unearned runs on three hits. Reliever Taylor Nunez took the loss.

Sheriff and Slidell police on the hunt for armed robber

The armed robber, who is suspected of two armed robberies last week on Brownswitch Road and Robert Boulevard in Slidell, is also suspected for the robbery of the Blockbuster Video store at the corner of Gause Boulevard and Military Road Wednesday afternoon.
