Capital One trims Pevey Realtors

Capital One (Fontainebleau High) edged Pevey Realtors (Ponchatoula High) 2-1 Tuesday at the Bone Yard in American Legion Sixth District East action.

Capital One (12-3 overall) moved to 7-0 in American Legion play.

With the game tied 1-1, Capital One pushed across the game-winning run in the bottom of the fifth. With one out, Klay Galloway (.500) doubled off of Darrin Bach. Will Ward singled to knock in Galloway with the game winner. Ward was then caught stealing and the next batter was retired on a fly ball to center.

Capital One starter Anthony LaGuardia (3-0) went five innings to post the victory, lowering his earned run average to 1.19. He allowed one earned run on three hits, registering four strikeouts with one walk. Addison Melancon earned the save, tossing two innings of hitless, scoreless relief. He struck out two, walking one to give him 14 strikeouts in 11 innings.

Pevey Realtors took a 1-0 lead with a run in the top of the first. With one out, Randall Meyers walked and moved to second on a wild pitch. Following a strikeout, Kaleb Kraft came through with a clutch two-out single, scoring Meyers for a 1-0 lead.

Capital One tied the game with a run in the second. Ryan Casassa (.372) doubled with David Fiegel flying out to left. James Cousin (.289) tripled home Casassa to tie the game at 1-1.

Capital One had seven hits. Melancon (.341) and Jacob Palmisano (.378) doubled, while Andrew Patin (.361) singled for the other hit.

Peake BMW edges LLOG Exploration

Peake BMW (St. Paul’s) slipped past LLOG Exploration (Mandeville High) 5-4 Tuesday in Northshore Summer Baseball League play. Peake BMW (5-7) banged out nine hits with Tanner Rainey going 2-2 with two runs batted in and two runs scored. Dylan Long went 2-3 with a walk and drove in a run. Christian Spansel collected two hits and scored twice.

Peake BMW’s John Gremillon (1-0) earned the victory, going four innings. He allowed one earned run on just two hits. Peake BMW moved to 5-7 at press time, while LLOG Exploration was 5-4.

LLOG Exploration grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first inning with Lee Batchelder delivering an RBI single. Batchelder (2-2) started for LLOG Exploration and took the loss, going five innings. He scattered eight hits, allowing five runs with five strikeouts and three walks.

Peake BMW tallied a run in the second to tie the game before plating three runs in the third and a single run in the fourth.

LLOG Exploration made a come back scoring three runs in the seventh. Zack Liberto delivered a two-run single and Ross Borrello produced a run scoring single in the inning.

Covington tops

Tangi Animal Clinic

Covington High snuck past Tangi Animal Clinic (Loranger High) 5-4 in eight innings Tuesday night behind Jourdan Taylor, who delivered two hits and drove in a run to spark the Lions to victory at Jimmy “Doc” Davis Field. Trey Fortner also collected two hits and scored a run, while Bo Tedesco knocked in a run. Blake Taylor and Dexter Thompson (.312) each had a hit and scored a run. Riley Boudreaux, the Lions’ leading hitter at .333, Payden Lynch (.312) and Tyler Nicholson (.300) each picked up one hit in the nine hit attack.

Nicholson started for the Lions going four innings. He allowed two runs on three hits, registering eight strikeouts with three walks. Reliever Ethan Stein went just a third of inning, struggling with his control as he walked two hitters and hit two, giving up two runs. Colin Knight (1-0) replaced Stein, tossing two and a third scoreless innings, giving up just one hit to record the victory. He struck out two and hit a batter.

Tangi Animal Clinic’s Austin Fandal went 2-3, while Gilbert Boudreaux had a double and Taylor Abrams picked up a single to account for the four hits.

Northshore captures victory over Salmen

Northshore’s Codey Miller went 3-4 with two RBIs and posted a three-inning save, allowing one run on two hits with a strikeout in an 8-3 victory over Salmen in a game held Tuesday at Fritchie Park.

Jacob Corbin posted two hits, including a double and two runs batted in, while Kyle Deckwa went 2-4 and drove in a pair of runs. Chris Eades doubled and drove in two runs, while Steven Gaines tallied two hits.

Starting pitcher Ryan LeBlanc (1-0) earned the victory. He went four innings and allowed two runs on two hits with a strikeout.

Salmen’s Mitchell Ginesi went 2-3 with an RBI, while Jason Hursey posted a hit and drove in a run. Tanner Dunham also registered a hit for the Spartans.

Brandon Hatcher suffered the loss for Salmen.

Anytime Fitness defeats Springfield

Anytime Fitness (Pearl River High) captured a 9-4 victory over Springfield in Tuesday’s American Legion game held at PRHS.

Anytime Fitness was 3-5 at Thursday’s press time.

Michael Beloso was the winning pitcher. He also helped himself at the plate by hitting a two-run homer.

Laneco Construction downs Post 16

Laneco Construction (Pope John Paul II) picked up a 9-5 win over American Legion Post 16 (Archbishop Hannan) in a game held Tuesday at PJP.

Laneco Construction was 7-5 overall and 5-3 in legion play at Thursday’s press time, while Post 16 was 6-7 overall and 3-4 in league.

Dustin Dampier went 3-3 with two runs and an RBI, while Blake Bonnaffons collected two hits, including a double, two runs batted in and a run scored. Ross Macaluso had two doubles, while scoring a run and driving in one. Bobby Mayfield finished with a hit, a run and an RBI. Timmy Turner posted a hit, a run and he drove in another, while Alex Ramirez went 1-4 with a run scored.

Winning pitcher Andrew Damiens (2-2) gave up five unearned runs on five hits with four strikeouts and a walk. Mayfield relived Damiens and threw the final two innings for the save. He gave up one hit and struck out four.

Peake BMW falls

to Brother Martin

In a battle of two Peake BMW sponsored clubs Monday, Peake BMW (Brother Martin) outlasted Peake BMW (St. Paul’s) 14-11 in a slugfest, featuring 25 total hits at Heap Field. Brother Martin pounded out 14 hits, while St. Paul’s had 11. St. Paul’s stranded nine runners in the game.

Brother Martin’s Myles Rodrigue (2-0) went five innings to post the victory. Taylor Novotny went 2-3 ripping a three-run homer in the fifth. Logan Riddell went 2-3 with three runs batted in, while Rivers Frederick went 3-3 with two runs batted in.

St. Paul’s Christian Spansel blasted a homer going 3-4 with four runs batted in and scored twice in the losing effort. Drew Francis went 2-4 with an RBI and tallied two runs. Shane Lacrouts collected two hits with two runs batted in and scored a run. Lacrouts (0-2) took the loss. Dane Stubbs had a hit for St. Paul’s and scored two runs.

St. Paul’s trailed 14-7 entering the bottom of the seventh. St. Paul’s pushed across four runs in their final at bat, but came up short.

Sheriff and Slidell police on the hunt for armed robber

The armed robber, who is suspected of two armed robberies last week on Brownswitch Road and Robert Boulevard in Slidell, is also suspected for the robbery of the Blockbuster Video store at the corner of Gause Boulevard and Military Road Wednesday afternoon.
