Mary Helen Ruiz, 72, passed away Wednesday, June 24, 2009. She was formerly of Portland, Ore., St. Bernard and long time resident of Pearl River.

She is survived by eight sons, Lawrence Meeks, David Ruiz Sr., Michael B. Ruiz, Malcom L. English; and daughters, Laurel Ruiz English, Darleen Ruiz (wife of Michael), Janice Meeks (wife of Lawrence) and Tammy Ruiz (wife of David); brother, Daniel J. Ruiz Sr.; and sisters, Patricia Palmer, Carol Corbett, Kathleen Julkowski and Betty Karr. She is also survived by 21 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Clarence Bernard “Pops” Ruiz; mother, Helen Evans; and mother and father of the heart, Carmelita Ruiz Assavedo and Frank Assevado.

A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. today at Thompson Road Baptist Church with the Randy Boyet officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Lakeshore Hospice Care.
