A ST. TAMMANY NEWS EDITORIAL

With no disrespect to our current leaders, our community is always in need of good leaders. There are so many things to do and accomplish to keep the parish going, and there is always room for new, fresh ideas that will help to maintain our wonderful quality of life. For those of you who think they might be a good leader, or to those who really want to make a difference in the community, you have a few days left to apply for a unique and educational experience that will give you the tools to be a good leader.

Leadership Northshore is an innovative program that helps emerging community leaders to prepare for leadership positions in government, business and community affairs.

While taking the program, a person learns all the specific aspects of St. Tammany Parish that makes it a unique place to live. Education, social issues, government, economic development, law enforcement, and other subjects are studied along with what it takes to develop leadership skills. There are classes, panel discussions field trips and research projects. Some of the research projects have become actual realities in our community, and many or our best parish leaders have been through Leadership Northshore.

The deadline for applications is June 30, and applications can be obtained at the East St. Tammany Chamber of Commerce or by going to the Web site www.leadershipnorthshore.org.

The tuition for this program is $1,000, and there are partial scholarships available. The tuition covers course material, luncheons, orientation retreat, transportation, a trip to Baton Rouge to study state government, and all fees.
