Lions' Thompson, Lynch homer in win over Tangi Animal Clinic (Loranger)

Covington High’s Lions pounded out 10 hits Tuesday on the road downing Tangi Animal Clinic (Loranger High) 13-2 in five-innings behind Dexter Thompson’s 3-run homer and Payden Lynch’s solo blast.

Thompson, the Lions’ leading hitter with a .333 average, finished with 11 runs batted in on the summer, second on the club. Thompson also led the Lions’ pitching staff with a 3-0 record with a save and a 1.84 earned run average in 19 innings of work.

Lynch (.326) ripped a solo homer in the first inning to give him a team-high four homers and he topped the Lions with 12 runs batted in. Lynch finished with a .696 slugging percentage and a .426 on base percentage, while leading the Lions with 13 runs scored.

CHS, which finished the summer 8-7, tallied single runs in the first and second innings before erupting for five runs in the third.

Tangi Animal Clinic stopped the bleeding with a run in the third, but CHS tallied three more in the fourth and closed out its scoring pushing across another three runs in the fifth.

Tangi Animal Clinic tallied the game’s final run in the bottom of the fifth.

Six different Covington hitters drove in runs to spark the Lions’ attack.

Blake Taylor (.267) had a hit, drove home two runs and scored once.

Tyler Nicholson (.306) went 2-3 with two doubles, a run batted in and scored one run, while Bo Tedesco (.250) had two singles with an RBI and a run scored. He finished with nine runs batted in, third on the team. Jourdon Taylor drove in a run and scored once.

Riley Boudreaux (.278) went 1-3 and scored two runs to give him nine runs, while Christian Thompson (.312) had a hit and scored a run.

Lions’ starter Ethan Stein (1-2) went two innings to earn the victory, allowing two hits with three strikeouts.

Reliever Daniel Thompson hurled two innings, facing eight batters, giving up just one hit, but he hit two batters and walked one. Billy Johnson closed things out in the fifth, facing five batters without giving up a hit.
