Ponstein’s downs

Laneco Construction

Ponstein’s (Holy Cross) trimmed Laneco Construction (Pope John Paul II) 6-2 Wednesday in a game played at PJP.

Ponstein’s (26-13-2) made the most of its six hits led by Harold Toscano, who went 2-3 with a run batted in and scored once. Toscano (3-1), who entered the game in the fourth inning in relief of starter Jordan White, picked up the victory.

Toscano went one inning, allowing two hits and no runs with a strikeout. White went three innings, giving up one unearned run on just one hit, while posting four strikeouts.

Ponstein’s Ryan Deemes and Bradley Brunet produced RBI singles, while Joe Broussard delivered an RBI sacrifice fly.

Ponstein’s took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first with Laneco Construction (9-6) answering in the bottom half of the inning. Ross Macaluso reached on an error, stole second and third, finally scoring on Zack Pohto’s groundout to third. Macaluso reached base twice on two walks.

Laneco Construction took a brief lead with a run in the bottom of the fourth. Pohto, who went 2-3, singled and stole second. Pohto scored on Tim Turner’s RBI single to give Laneco a 2-1 lead. Ponstein’s took charge with a five-spot in the fifth to secure the victory.

Christian Grady started for Laneco and went three innings. He gave up one unearned run on just one hit. Reliever Connor Olivier (1-1) replaced Grady and took the loss, giving up four runs (two earned) on four hits. Dustin Dampier pitched the final two innings.

Anytime Fitness

tops Post 16

Anytime Fitness (Pearl River High) slipped past Post 16 (Archbishop Hannan) 13-10 Tuesday in an American Legion game played at Pearl River.

Post 16 held a 10-5 lead after four and a half innings before Anytime Fitness mounted its comeback, tallying six runs in the bottom of the fifth. Anytime Fitness tacked on two insurance runs in the sixth to secure the 13-10 come-from-behind victory. Post 16’s Dylan Manichia went 2-5 with two runs batted in, while Ben Condon went 2-2. Drew Arceneaux had a hit and drove in a run.

Covington High

loses doubleheader

The Covington High Lions lost a pair of games Saturday in a doubleheader played at Athletic Park in Ponchatoula. Pevey Realtors (Ponchatoula High) blanked CHS 9-0 in Saturday morning’s opener, limiting the Lions to just four hits. Riley Boudreaux, Trey Fortner, Tyler Nicholson and Jourdon Taylor collected hits for the Lions. CHS starter Blake Taylor (0-1) was tagged with the loss. He went four innings, allowing three unearned runs on just two hits. Reliever Colin Knight went one inning, giving up two runs (one earned) on two hits, while Billy Johnson allowed four earned runs on five hits in his inning of work.

Pevey Realtors held a 5-0 lead after five innings before tacking on four runs in the sixth to finish off the scoring.

In Saturday’s second game, Muffalatta’s Deli (Hammond High) outlasted CHS 11-7 pounding out 12 hits. CHS let a 5-0 lead evaporate in the bottom of the fifth when Muffalatta’s Deli pushed across eight runs before tagging on three more in the sixth. Covington tallied twice in the seventh to close out the scoring. The Lions finished with nine hits. Dexter Thompson went 2-4 with a double and scored a run. Payden Lynch delivered a hit, drove in a run and scored twice. Bo Tedesco, Blake Taylor, Jourdon Taylor, Christian Thompson, Fortner and Nicholson added hits to the Lions’ attack. Nicholson (0-1) started and took the loss going four and one-third innings. He gave up eight runs (six earned) on seven hits. Dexter Thompson relieved him and went one and two-third innings, giving up five hits.

Sheriff and Slidell police on the hunt for armed robber

The armed robber, who is suspected of two armed robberies last week on Brownswitch Road and Robert Boulevard in Slidell, is also suspected for the robbery of the Blockbuster Video store at the corner of Gause Boulevard and Military Road Wednesday afternoon.
