Soon shoppers we be able to find a bed or new bedding on U. S. Highway 190. Cordell’s Bedroom Gallery, currently located on U. S. 190 and Louisiana Highway 22, is relocating to a renovated building that will give the Covington based retailer more space.

It will be located on the service road north of Fairway Drive near Lakeview Regional Medical Center.

Brent Cordell, third generation of the furniture family, said that the local business started on Boston Street in 1966.

“We’re here to stay and aren’t going anywhere,” he said. He also said, “We felt it was important to renovate an existing building instead of building a new building. The location is perfect and it has actually cost us more to renovate than it would have cost to build new,” he said.

Cordell said they were also eager to own their own building for the bedroom gallery and make the statement that they are here to stay and not afraid to invest in the community.

“The downfall of our business is that (the furniture) lasts too long. Many people come back to purchase because we handle such quality merchandise,” he said.

Although Cordell Furniture is 43 years old, the Cordell Bedroom Gallery is only 10-12 years old.

The new showroom will be about the same size as the current one – 7,500 square feet.

The new facility will have a total of 14,500 square feet, with half of it dedicated to showroom and half to bedding. There is also 3/4 of an acre behind the building available for future expansion.
