Archbishop Hannan’s Hawks traveled to Pensacola, Fla., over the July 4 weekend to participate in an 18 and under tournament. Hannan went 0-3 with all three games being stopped due to the time limit, but the club picked up some valuable experience playing against quality teams.

In Friday’s opener, Hannan came up short, falling to the Pensacola Titans 11-4. Both clubs collected eight hits in the game, which was called in the fifth inning.

Hannan’s Dylan Manichia went 3-3, collecting three doubles with two runs batted in. Christian Clark, who started on the mound, took the loss. Clark went 3-3 at the plate in the loss. Bubba Tomberlin replaced Clark in the third. In the second game, the Alabama D-Backs defeated the Hawks 6-2 on Saturday. Hannan’s Andrew Arceneaux started and suffered the loss. He pitched well for the first two innings, before walking the first three batters in the third. Ben Condon relieved Arceneaux.

Hannan was able to get out of the inning with catcher Logan Booksh throwing out a runner trying to steal third. Clark threw out a runner at home and Stuart Seiler caught a line drive to end the inning.

The Hawks held a 1-0 lead after three innings before the D-Backs pushed across an unearned run in the fourth followed by four (two earned) in the fifth off of Booksh, who came on in relief.

The D-Backs closed out the scoring with an unearned run in the sixth to take the victory. Hannan’s Clark went 2-3 and scored a run. Manichia had a hit and drove in a run, while Arceneaux collected a double and scored once.

Hannan squared off again with the Alabama D-Backs in their final game Sunday and were blanked 8-0, being limited to just three hits.

Condon, Manichia and Tomberlin had the Hawks’ hits. Manichia got the start and took the loss, going four innings, while walking six batters.
