Madisonville volleyball camp The second-annual Madisonville All-Skills Volleyball Camp will take place July 6-10 from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Coquille Recreation Gym. Men’s Club golf fundraiser set The Village Church Lutheran Men’s Club located in Lacombe is sponsoring its first annual golf tournament July 12 at Royal Golf Course in Slidell. The organization welcomes the support of sponsors. The proceeds will enable the church to contribute donations to many needy causes within the community. Lil Sluggers classes planned The Lil Sluggers, a child development program created to introduce the basics of baseball and softball, has begun its summer session, which runs through the end of July, but is still accepting registration. Classes are held at the Coquille Sports Complex and The Kangarena in Covington. Lil Sluggers classes develop important skills such as throwing, catching, hitting and base running. Golf Foundation conducting tour The Atlanta-based U.S. Kids Golf Foundation is conducting a local tour that will consist of eight-single day events all in or around the Baton Rouge area. It has already begun, but the remaining tour includes stops at Beaver Creek Golf Club in Zachary (July 7), Santa Maria Golf Club in Baton Rouge (July 12) and Copper Mill Golf Club in Zachary (July 14). The championship will take place at the LSU Golf Course on July 22. All U.S. Kids Golf Tour events consist of nine-age groups for boys 6-under-14. The girls feature eight-age groups, 7-under-14. Depending on age, the one-day event will feature either nine or 18 holes. In order to promote family interaction, parents are encouraged to serve as caddies for the players. Those 8-under must have a caddy at all times. Competitors earn awards and points for each tournament they play. The leading point earners in each division can earn an invitation to next year’s U.S. Kids Golf World Championship, which will be held in Pinehurst, N.C. Free football conditioning camp The Covington Recreation Department is holding a free football conditioning camp for those ages 5-13 from July 7-31 at the ball field at 28th Avenue and Tyler Street. PRYFA sponsoring speed, agility and speed camp The third annual Speed, Agility and Cheer camp also known as “Eagle Camp 2009,” sponsored by Pearl River Youth Football Association, is being held July 16-18 at Pointevante Park. The clinic is open to ages 5-13 and is free of charge. It will stress football fundamentals, including stretching, running, drills, passing, kicking and sportsmanship. Campers signing up for cheerleading camp will be taught dance, cheers and overall spirit of competition. All campers are required to wear comfortable athletic footwear, bring a water bottle, hand towel and a football that has been marked with the child’s name and phone number. The camp times on July 16-17 are 5:30 until 7:30 p.m. July 18 will run from 9 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Camp t-shirts will be available to purchase for $10. Participants can register for one, two or all three days of camp. Sign ups will be at the park, beginning at 5 p.m. the first two days and 8:30 a.m. the final day. Northshore Tennis Association offers youth program The Northshore Tennis Association has an ongoing Junior and Mr. Pee Wee development tennis program for boys and girls ages 4-18. It starts with private or semi-private sessions to familiarize youngsters with tennis terms, stroke production and procedures. The year-round programs are held at the Kehoe-France Northshore School and public courts in Covington and Mandeville. Competitions are held for boys and girls 10 and under that have not been ranked on a state level and are new to tournament competition. Yearly registration is $25 and $5 and an unopened can of tennis balls is required per tournament or $8 total per tournament.
