Pevey Realtors (Ponchatoula High) made a statement Tuesday blanking Post 16 (Archbishop Hannan) 10-0 in five innings in the American Legion Sixth District East West Division playoff seeding game played at Athletic Park.

Pevey Realtors (13-9), the West Division champs and No. 1 seed, now host the Southeast Regional State Tournament July 11-15 in Ponchatoula.

Pevey Realtors’ shortstop Dylan Hills delivered a strong offensive showing, going 3-4 with three runs batted in and scored twice, while first baseman Kaleb Kraft went 3-3 with three singles, a run batted in and scored twice.

Hills talked about his offensive performance.

“I was very relaxed at the plate and I was seeing the ball very well. I just really tried to stay back and stay on top of the ball. I hit the ball square and it worked out good,” Hills said.

“I’m a fastball hitter, who is mostly a left field hitter. When coach asks me to hit the ball the other way, I can usually do that too,” Hills added.

Pevey Realtor starter Elisha Settoon (3-2) combined with Darrin Bach on a four-hitter in the game, which was halted in the fifth inning due to the 10-run rule. Settoon, who went three innings, allowed three hits with no walks. Settoon has posted a 2.00 earned run average, while registering three saves during the summer.

Settoon said it was a good team victory.

“I was glad I was able to come out and throw well. I didn’t get strikeouts, but I was able to throw strikes and let my defense make some plays for me,” Settoon said.

“It’s good to be playing well entering the regional tournament. Hopefully, we can get on a roll and carry it out in the weekend tournament,” Settoon added.

Post 16 starter Ben Condon (0-1) went two-innings. He was efficient in the first inning, but struggled in the second as Pevey Realtors sent nine hitters to the plate, pushing across three runs on four hits. Randall Meyers led off with a double and Kraft knocked him in with an RBI single to right center field. Bach produced a single to center and Brady Bass put down a sacrifice bunt, advancing both runners. Condon struck out the next batter for the second out before Hills stepped in and ripped a sharp two-run single down the left field line, scoring Kraft and Bach to make it 3-0. Hills moved to third on a wild pitch followed by Dylan Meyers and Justin Crowell earning walks to load the bases. Condon retired the next hitter on a line drive to shortstop Stu Seiler to strand the runners, keeping it a three-run ball game.

Post 16 reliever Joey LaRocca took over for Condon to open the third inning. After retiring the first hitter on a fly ball, LaRocca ran into difficulty as Pevey sent nine batters to the plate, tallying four runs on four hits. Kraft singled and Bach flew out. Bass drew a walk and Brett Vampragn singled home Kraft to build a 4-0 advantage.

Hills connected for an RBI double to left to score Bass. Dylan Meyers walked and Justin Crowell connected for a two-run single to center, scoring Vampragn and Hills to push the margin to 7-0.

Pevey Realtors tacked on a run in the fifth. Randall Meyers walked and Kraft singled for his third hit. Meyers eventually scored on a wild pitch. Post 16 reliever Bubba Tomberlin entered the game in the fifth replacing LaRocca.

Pevey tallied twice in the inning to close out the game. Hills opened with a single, collecting his third hit and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Dylan Meyers drove him home with a single to right and was replaced by courtesy runner Jake Lipps. Crowell reached after being hit by a pitch with both runners moving up on a passed ball. Settoon sent a single up the middle, plating Lipps to close out the game.

Pevey Realty coach Mark Gosnell said he felt his team played well.

“We swung the bats very well and we made some plays defensively. Settoon was his usual steady self on the mound for three innings with Bach coming in do to a nice job,” Gosnell said. “We hadn’t played in a week so it was important that we get the game in getting some quality at bats. It was good to get back on the field to be in a game situation.”

Post 16 was limited to four hits and one other runner reached on a walk. Catcher Logan Booksh connected for a two-out double in the first. Condon beat out a bunt single down the third base line in the second. Leadoff hitter Andrew Arceneaux had a bloop single to center in the third and Condon drew a walk in the fourth inning off of Bach. Post 16’s Tomberlin singled to open the fifth, but was erased on a 5-4-3 double play.

Post 16 coach Boomer Nunez said Pevey Realtors played a strong game.

“They out hit us and their timely hitting paid off for them. We were a little tired after playing three games in a Fourth of July tournament in Pensacola, Fla.,” Nunez said.
