The Louisiana High School Soccer Coaches Association inaugural boys’ and girls’ all-star games take place tomorrow at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in a history-making event.

Mandeville coach Sean Esker, who is the first Vice President for the coaches’ association, meaning he is the lead representative for the girls’ soccer coaches in all division, said he’s looking forward to the event.

“This is something coaches have talked about wanting to do for a long time,” Esker said. “We’re excited about finally putting on the event.”

The games will be the first high school all-star soccer games in Louisiana High School soccer history. The girls’ match gets underway at 4 p.m. followed by the boys’ contest at 7.

The girls’ East team has six standout St. Tammany Parish athletes on the roster, including Kaley Blanton (FHS), Kelly Gautreaux (SSSA), Amy Howard (MHS), Bailey Kleis (MHS), Sydney Robbins (FHS) and Kim Treese (PRHS). Pavlos Petrou (Mount Carmel) serves as the East squad head coach along with assistant coaches Craig Winchell (St. Joseph’s Academy) and Bruce Deaton (Ouachita Christian).

Katie Breaux (Lafayette High) is the West team’s head coach with Lisa Levermann (C.E. Byrd) and Philip Amedee (Vandebilt Catholic) serving as assistant coaches.

Two St. Tammany Parish boys were named to the East squad, which are Peyton Adkins (Fontainebleau High) and Scott Mayer (St. Paul’s). Jesuit’s Hubie Collins is the head coach with Andrew Barnes (Woodlawn-Baton Rouge) and John Cox (St. Thomas Aquinas) working as assistant coaches.

Jason Oertling (St. Louis Catholic) is the boys’ West squad head coach with assistant coaches Lance Peltier (Teurlings Catholic) and Matt Smith (Captain Shreve).

The all-star process began with player nominations from the coaches and athletic directors. The LHSSCA all-star coaching staffs and selection committee chose a roster of 22 players each to comprise the East and West squads. Only graduating seniors from the class of 2009 from LHSAA member schools were eligible for consideration. The LHSSCA is an organization of high school coaches throughout the state of Louisiana (www.lhssca.org).
