Jared Montz Soccer Camp
Former professional soccer player and Mandeville High graduate Jared Montz is holding a soccer camp July 13-17 at Pelican Park for ages 5-13 form 9 a.m. until noon.
The cost is $195 if you pay one day before and the walk-in rate is $205. Women’s Self Defense Classes
Premier Tae Kwon Do owner and master instructor Brian James is offering a Women’s Self Defense Class Wednesday and July 22 at 7 p.m.
The cost is $75 for non-members, $30 for returning members. The cost includes a T-shirt and manual. Class size is limited to the first 15 students that register. Learn how to manage your safety, defend yourself from attackers, be proactive and get in shape.

Free football
camp ongoing
The Covington Recreation Department is holding a free football conditioning camp for those ages 5-13 through July 31 at the ball field at 28th Avenue and Tyler Street.
The clinic is free to CRD participants.
Anyone interested must register to take part. All CRD team players are welcome and all volunteer coaches are asked to come help.
Players must wear t-shirt, shorts and tennis shoes or cleats. There will also be a cheerleading camp. For more information, call 893-4044.

PRYFA sponsoring speed, agility and speed camp
The third annual Speed, Agility and Cheer camp also known as “Eagle Camp 2009,” sponsored by Pearl River Youth Football Association, is being held July 16-18 at Pointevante Park. The clinic is open to ages 5-13 and is free of charge. It will stress football fundamentals, including stretching, running, drills, passing, kicking and sportsmanship. Campers signing up for cheerleading camp will be taught dance, cheers and overall spirit of competition. All campers are required to wear comfortable athletic footwear, bring a water bottle, hand towel and a football that has been marked with the child’s name and phone number. The camp times on July 16-17 are 5:30 until 7:30 p.m. July 18 will run from 9 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Camp T-shirts will be available to purchase for $10. Participants can register for one, two or all three days of camp. Sign ups will be at the park, beginning at 5 p.m. the first two days and 8:30 a.m. the final day.
Local high school football coaches and players have been asked to participate in the drills. Numerous law enforcement agencies will hold demonstrations. Also, once again Fire District 11 will be on hand to demonstrate firefighting techniques and fire safety.

Chris Duhon holding a golf tournament
New York Knicks’ guard and 2000 Salmen High graduate Chris Duhon will host the Stand Tall Foundation charity golf tournament July 18 at Oak Harbor Golf Club.
Registration and check in begins at 11 a.m. with a 12:30 p.m. shotgun start. The cost is $125 per golfer. You can also purchase the VIP individual package for $200. It includes VIP dinner (plus guest) the night before and golf for one. An awards presentation will follow and be given out to 1-3-place finishers, hole-in-one winner, putting contest victory and the longest-drive prize will also be awarded. There will be raffle and door prizes.

Indoor kickball league
The St. Tammany Arena in Madisonville will be the site for an Indoor Kickball League, which will be for all ages and abilities. The focus will be on skills, not competition and it features four-weeks of play. There will be an instructional session for all league players from 9 a.m. until noon on July 18. Teams will be built prior to the start of three round-robin instruction and play sessions will take place Aug. 1, 8 and 15. The cost is $15, which includes a uniform shirt and the deadline is July 1. Chris Duhon basketball camp
The fifth annual Chris Duhon basketball camp will take place at Fritchie Park’s Gym July 20-24 for boys and girls ages 7-15. The camp runs 8:30 a.m. through 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and ends at 1 p.m. that Friday. The cost is $150 a camper, which includes lunch. The clinic will focus on the fundamentals of basketball such as ball handling, passing, shooting, dribbling, footwork, defense and rebounding.

2009 VIA Summer Camps
The Volleyball Institute of America is holding a Volleyball Summer Camp during the week of July 20-24 for ages 7-14 at Northlake Christian School in Covington. The cost is $120 for anyone pre-registered before July 10 and $135 for anyone registered after.
The price includes registration fees and a camp t-shirt. Camp sessions are scheduled from 5:30-7:00 pm for children entering first-fifth grade (ages 7-11) and from 7-8:30pm for children entering sixth-eighth grade (ages 12-14). Fallen firefighters golf tournament
The New Orleans Metro Firefighters is hosting the second annual Nation Fallen Firefighters Foundation and Benefit Golf Tournament on Oct. 13 at Lakewood Country Club on General DeGaulle Drive in Algiers.
The cost is $150 per player or $600 a foursome. Before Sept. 15, the fee is $550.
There will be two flights. The morning flight will begin at 8 for first responders and one in the afternoon at 1 for all other golfers.
There are also three sponsorship levels at $100, $500 and $1,000.
The money raised is going to the National Fallen Firefighters Association and National Football League charities. NFL players will be taking part in both flights.

Ten Star Basketball Camp
Final applications are being evaluated for the Ten Star All-Star Summer Basketball Camp, which is by invitation only. Boys and girls 10-19 are eligible to apply.
Past participants include Michael Jordan, Tim Duncan, Vince Carter, Jerry Stackhouse and Antawn Jamison. Players from 50 states, 11 foreign countries attended the 2008 clinic and college basketball scholarships are possible for players selected to the All-American Team. Camp locations include Gainesville, Ga., Babson Park, Fla. and Commerce, Texas among others. There is also a summer camp available for boys and girls ages 9-18 of all skill levels. Northshore Tennis Association offers youth program
The Northshore Tennis Association has an ongoing Junior and Mr. Pee Wee development tennis program for boys and girls ages 4-18. It starts with private or semi-private sessions to familiarize youngsters with tennis terms, stroke production and procedures. The year-round programs are held at the Kehoe-France Northshore School and public courts in Covington and Mandeville. Competitions are held for boys and girls 10 and under that have not been ranked on a state level and are new to tournament competition. Yearly registration is $25 and $5 and an unopened can of tennis balls is required per tournament or $8 total per tournament.
