All 40 full-time firefighters of FD12 participated in the course, Introduction to Emergency Management, offered by the LSU Fire & Emergency Training Institute. The training took place at the district’s Covington facilities.
The class not only focused on disaster-scale events, but also on situations affecting larger geographic areas and populations. Topics covered include Warning and Notification, Shift Management, Personnel Safety and Coordination with the Emergency Operations Center, among other sections.

FD12 Chief Darrell Guilott said that the district’s working relationship with the LSU-FETI has been a tremendous benefit for the organization and the citizens it serves.
“Although disaster-scale emergencies rarely arise in our area, they do sometimes occur, as Hurricane Katrina showed us four years ago,” said Guilott. “We’re proud of our staff for having successfully completed this course, and we’re confident our constituents will be better served as a result of this effort.”
