An elaborate robbery plan in Franklinton went awry Sunday, and resulted in the shooting death of a Mandeville man, according to the Franklinton Police Department.

FPD spokesperson Lt. Justin Brown said two Franklinton men have been arrested on first-degree murder charges.

Brown said police responded to a 911 call about a car accident in the 1400 block of Alford Street in Franklinton Sunday around 11 p.m.

When police arrived they found a car that had hit a gas meter and smashed into a tree. Police also found the body of Jimmy Brock, 58, 340 Audubon Drive, Mandeville, behind the wheel with two gunshot wounds.

“He was shot once in the back, and once in the head,” Brown said.

The investigation of the murder led to the arrest of Kendarrious Bautista, 17, and Delaris Jenkins, 19, both of Franklinton. Bautista was charged with first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit armed robbery, and Jenkins was charged with conspiracy to commit armed robbery, Brown said.

Investigators discovered that Bautista and Jenkins planned to rob Brock by having Jenkins wear a wig and pose as a woman, and try to get into Brock’s car to rob him.

Brown said Jenkins managed to get into Brock’s car, but when Brock realized that Jenkins was a male, he ordered him out of the car. Brown said that Brock then drove back to Alford Street, and somehow, Bautista forced himself into Brock’s car, and allegedly shot Brock twice for an unknown reason. Bautista then jumped from the moving car, which ran over a gas meter, and then hit a tree.

Interviews with witnesses led investigators to the pair, who were interviewed Monday. After the interview, Bautista and Jenkins were both arrested, Brown said.

The area where the murder occurred is known to be an area where drugs are sold.

Two years ago, a Franklinton police officer was murdered on Alford Street.

Brown said that police discovered Brock was dating Elizabeth Harvey until her death in 2008.

Harvey was the mother of Faith Hathaway, who was murdered by Robert Lee Willie and Joe Vaccaro in 1980. That case was the inspiration for the book and movie “Dead Man Walking.”

" Jail is where they both belong for a long long time, at least until they are 50. This state has to get serious about violent crime, and put predetors like this where they belong, in a zoo like cage where they can hurt no one but others like them. "

" maybe if these young punks had good parents and got disciplined accordingly when they were little they wouldnt have done this. They need to go to prison for a while... "

" This was my uncle Jimmy and I loved him dearly. I was shocked to find out about this. I went to school with both of these stupid punks. And it's hard to fathom that I walked the halls with the boys who killed my uncle.

And by the way; he was "picking up franklinton ho's". The boy dressed as a woman was saying she needed a ride home and my uncle was a loving giving man and was trying to help, before he was brutally murdered for being kind hearted. "

" It is truly amazing how lives get going down the wrong roads. None of the people involved in this incident were completely bad, they all had some good qualities, however now one is dead, and two are headed to prison for probably the rest of thier lives. Tragic! "
