SSA wins Walker Shootout CC Invitational

St. Scholastica Academy’s Doves captured the championship Saturday at the Walker Shootout Cross Country Invitational with 48 points led by the fourth place individual finish of Angela LaBorde. Mount Carmel (67) came in second followed by host Walker (165) with Hanson Memorial (184) taking fourth followed by Episcopal (188) in fifth. Local teams, which participated included Fontainebleau (303) finishing 11th, while Mandeville’s Lady Skippers (326) were 13th. Slidell (446) came in 19th followed by Northshore (447). A total of 22 girls’ teams participated included 192 individual runners.

Covington’s Lady Lions polished off the Loranger Lady Wolves Wednesday in non-district play at home winning 25-21, 25-16, 25-19 behind the outstanding play of junior hitter Rachel Smith, who pounded down a match-high 22 kills. She also pulled up 12 digs with four blocks and three aces to help spark the Lady Lions to the sweep.
