A woman from Washington state was killed early Sunday morning on Interstate 10 in Slidell after her car, going the wrong way, smashed into a charter bus.

According to Trooper Nick Manale, spokesman for Troop L of the Louisiana State Police, Sarah M. Reynolds, 28, of Vancouver, Wash., was traveling east in the westbound lane of I-10 in her 2003 Honda when she smashed head-on into a charter bus driving by Ricardo Barrera, 46, of Mission, Texas.

Manale said Reynolds was taken to Slidell Memorial Hospital where she died a short time later from her injuries. Barrera was not injured.

Manale said that police do not know why Reynolds was going the wrong way on the highway, but he did say that driver impairment was probably a factor in the accident. However, a sample of Reynolds’ blood has been sent for analysis. Manale said Barrera passed a chemical breath test given to him at the hospital. Manale said Reynolds was not wearing her seat belt at the time of the accident.
