Three days after a Neighborhood Watch program was started in an area in north Covington, police were able to nab a drug dealer, thanks to residents calling to report the man.

Capt. Jack West, Covington Police Department spokesman, said his department had revived the Neighborhood Watch Oct. 15. Then they got a call Oct. 18 at 11 a.m. to report a man selling drugs on the corner of Polk Street and W. 31st Avenue. The caller gave a very detailed description of the suspected dealer.

Police officers arrived in the area, and found Kenneth Wilson, 35, 709 N. Monroe St., who fit the description.

At first, Wilson tried to hide his drugs, West said, and then began a fight with the police officers. Officers were able to restrain Wilson and he was arrested for resisting arrest. While searching Wilson, police found 37 small bags of marijuana, each weighing about 27 ounces. West said the marijuana had a street value of $200.

Police also found $100 in cash on Wilson. He was then charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and one count of violating a drug-free zone. West said that Wilson has an extensive record for selling drugs and fighting the police.
