Slidell opens contest to name city's two municipal buildings

As the bard used to ask, what is in a name?

Well, for the city of Slidell, a name for each of the new municipal buildings next to City Hal would be a good thing. . Right now, the buildings are called Municipal Building One and Municipal Building Two, which doesn’t quite inspire pride. With that in mind, the city is holding a contest to give both buildings a moniker.

Municipal Building One is currently under construction to the right of City Hall, and is expected to be finished in early 2010. It will house the City Council, city attorney, and the departments of Finance, Data Processing, Risk Management and Personnel. Bids have gone out on Municipal Building Two, which will sit behind City Hall and will house the other city departments. It is slated to be finished by 2011.

The name contest is open to all residents. The only prohibition is the buildings cannot be named after someone who is still alive.

Deadline for the entries is 4 p.m. Nov. 4. All entries must include the person’s name, contact information and their proposed names for each of the buildings. The entries can either be hand delivered to the Slidell City Hall on Second Street, e-mailed to mnewman@ cityofslidell.org, faxed to 646-4209 or mailed to Melissa Newman, The City of Slidell, P.O. Box 828, Slidell, LA, 70459.

A building name committee will make the final selections, and the city does reserve the right to not accept any of the names submitted.

" "Municipal Building One and Municipal Building Two" sounds so uninspiring.

How about; Municipal Building A and Municipal Building B?
