Slidell police have arrested a man on charges of aggravated burglary and aggravated rape after he allegedly broke into the house of a 42-year-old woman early Sunday morning.

Capt. Kevin Foltz, Slidell police spokesman said that the victim called police around 5 a.m. Sunday to report that Eric J. Poyorena, 32, 119 Whitehall St., Slidell had kicked down her front door and proceeded to rape her. Foltz said the victim called police after Poyorena had left her residence, and told police she knew Poyorena.

Police found Poyorena at his home at 7:26 a.m. and he was arrested.

Foltz said that police would not say how the victim knew Poyorena in order to protect her identity. The victim was taken to a local hospital and treated.

As of Tuesday afternoon, Poyorena was being held in the St. Tammany Jail.

" Its ridiculous the number of stories I read that show men taking out their anger and frustrations by raping women. It is a shame that these women spend the rest of their lives with permanent emotional scarring. Its disturbing that the female sex now needs self defense classes and concealed weapons permits. Even more disturbing is the fact that girls that are too young to defend themselves are victims of such attacks. We need to start teaching our children respect for life, and not just their own. "
