The Jackson Chiefs rolled past the Archbishop Hannan Hawks 42-0 Friday night at home in a district contest. The Chiefs (2-7) dominated the action taking a 28-0 halftime lead. Hannan (2-7) falls to 0-4 in District 6-1A play, while Jackson moves to 2-1 in the district. The Chiefs are rolling after coming off a lopsided 23-0 victory over the Kentwood Kangaroos last week.

Jackson head coach Solomon Lee, who is in his fourth year with the Chiefs, said his ballclub has put it together during the past two weeks.

“Our players have bought into our system and are coming together following a very tough schedule earlier in the season,” Lee said. “It was a great team effort with our defense getting its second consecutive shutout.

To Hannan’s credit despite the score, they never quit and played until the final whistle,” Lee added.

Jackson’s freshman running back Demontrell Lee tallied the Chiefs’ first touchdown on a 20-yard run with Gilbert Grogan kicking the point after for an early 7-0 lead. Quarterback Ellis Eubanks hit Grogan on a 34-yard scoring toss to make it 13-0, but the snap on the point after was bobbled and the conversion was unsuccessful. Eubanks pushed the lead to 19-0 on a 32-yard scoring run. The Chiefs went for a two-point conversion and Eubanks converted to increase the margin to 21-0. Chiefs’ punt returner Lajamie Ferguson found the end zone returning a punt 54 yards with about three minutes left in the first half. Ron Jefferson tacked on the extra point to give the Chiefs a 28-0 lead at intermission.

Tyler Armstead tallied on a 30-yard run and the extra point was missed for a 34-0 advantage. Christopher Matthews tallied the final TD on a 52-yard run with Justin White running the ball in for a two-point conversion to close out the scoring.

Jackson registered 274 rushing yards in the game, while the Chiefs’ defense took care of business holding Hannan to minus 37 yards on the ground.

Hannan closes out its season Friday hosting North Central.
