The Clerk of Court’s office for St. Tammany Parish has selected the Covington Boys and Girls Club as the recipient of the office’s 2009 charity fund raiser.

Each year, Clerk of Court Malise Prieto chooses a local organization as the focus for financial & volunteer support by her staff. The generosity of Clerk of Court employees resulted in raising $1,052.00 for the club.

The Clerk of Court’s Office is a participant in the “Raise Fifty Fast” Program, in which 50 local organizations strive to raise $1,000 for the Covington Boys and Girls Club.

Recently, a check for the proceeds of the fundraiser was presented to Councilwoman Frances Dunn, a member of the steering committee.

The Covington Boys and Girls Club serves more than 100 youths and operates Monday through Friday from 3-7 p.m., serving many at risk children, providing a safe and nurturing environment for them.

The organization provides diversified activities and programs, such as after school tutoring, positive lifestyle behavior training, arts programs and recreation and fitness development. Services are delivered to local youth ages 6-18 just blocks from the Justice Center at the gym in the former Rosenwald School, now the Harrison Curriculum Facility, located at 801 N. Tyler St.
