The club organizes competitions into three classes to accommodate different levels of expertise. Apprentice is for beginner photographers or those who are not comfortable with their technical skills, Journeyman is for average to advanced amateur photographers and Master for very advanced amateurs and professional photographers.
Each image is given a score from one to five points from three in-house judges. The top four images with all classes combined are forwarded to Gulf States Camera Club Council to be re-competed against winners from the thirty-five member clubs from Louisiana, Mississippi, Texas, Oklahoma and New Mexico.
