St. Helena Central coach Tim Ard said PJP has a scrappy team.
“Watching them on film against Springfield, they were down, they pretty much had lost, but they were full speed. They weren’t going to stop until the game was over,” Ard said.
Offensively, the Jaguars run the double-wing.
Senior Tyler Lusignan is the main running back. Last week, he rushed for 195 yards, two touchdowns and a two-point conversion.
The quarterback is Clyde Perkins. Last week, he rushed for a score.
Overall, the Jags ran for 281 yards.
Defensively, the Jaguars run an aggressive 4-3.
Last week, the unit struggled surrendering 429 yards of total offense to Springfield.
Tim Turner led PJP with eight tackles, four solo, while Calvin Durel and Joel Price each had seven stops and three individual. R.J. Barba posted seven stops, four solos and Kevin Oakes tallied seven tackles, two personals.
For St. Helena Central, the Hawks are multiple on offense.
Senior Kendric Crum is the starter and senior Bennie Warner, who also plays wide receiver and free safety, has seen time as a signal caller.
The two have combined for more than 500 yards passing and five touchdowns.
Senior Gemelle Washington is the running back. This season, he’s carried the ball 88 times for 703 yards and seven touchdowns.
St. Helena’s leading wide receiver is junior Ryan Byrd, who caught 18 passes for 431 yards and two scores.
Jaguars’ coach Mark Jeanmard said St. Helena Central has some good athletes.
“They’re kind of a transition team. They lost their running back in Darin Self (graduated last year),” Jeanmard said. “They rotated quarterbacks on the film we saw. The same things still hold true. We need to know where their quarterback and wide receivers are. One of their best plays could be a play that breaks down and we lose contain on their on the quarterback. Defensively, they have a lot of guys on the line of scrimmage. We have to get our blocking assignments.”
Defensively, the Hawks run the 4-3-5.
Junior linebacker Jerry Turner has 62 tackles, four sacks and an interception. Linebacker Billy Richardson’s registered 59 stops. Byrd’s made 40 stops, while intercepting five passes and returning one for a touchdown. Junior tackle Ahmad Lee’s posted 27 tackles and three sacks. Back Terrence Thompson, who also competes at wide receiver has 17 stops and three picks.
