Mandeville police participated in a short pursuit last week that landed one man in jail and his passenger in the hospital.

Shortly before midnight Oct.23 a Mandeville officer observed a white Nissan Maxima run the red light at the U-turn for Florida Street Extension. According to Acting Chief Ron Ruple the officer turned on his overhead lights and started in pursuit.

The driver, 23-year-old Jeffery Bock, 303 St. Francis Street, Madisonville, Continues onto Florida street Extension at a very high rate of speed.

“He was going so fast when he made that turn he nearly hit the tree,” Ruple said.

A second officer joined the pursuit, parking his car at the intersection of Florida Street Extension and East Causeway Approach.

Bock drove his Maxima around the second car, and is estimated to be traveling in excess of 90miles per hour at this point.

When he attempted to turn onto East Causeway Approach, Bock lost control and drove over the median and into a ditch, where his car flipped over and slid on the roadway.

The car did not come to rest until it reached Kleber Street.

Bock was cited for reckless operation, running a red light, speeding, aggravated flight from an officer, driving with a suspended license, second offense driving while intoxicated and vehicular negligent injuring.

He sustained minor injuries and refused medical treatment.

His passenger, a 24-year-old man, sustained a lacerated kidney and collapsed lung and was transported to the hospital.
