FHS sweeps Ponchatoula

Fontainebleau grabbed the District 4-I title Tuesday sweeping the Ponchatoula Lady Green Wave 25-7, 25-6, 25-14 on the road.

FHS (40-2) moved to 11-0 in district at press time with one district game remaining yesterday at St. Scholastica Academy, the second place team. The Lady Bulldogs’ Jessica Guttierrez registered seven digs, five kills and four aces to help lead her club to victory. Delaney Pittari downed six kills, while Taylor Anderson contributed five kills and two blocks. Michelle Cabeceiras delivered 14 assists with two aces and Caitlyn Auxilien pulled up 10 digs. Morgan Todd netted four aces and McCrea Barney chipped in with three. The Lady Bulldogs played again without sophomore sensation Haley Bonneval who is out with a foot injury.

SSA tops Covington

St. Scholastica Academy’s Doves downed the Covington Lady Lions 25-20, 25-12, 25-23 Tuesday in district play at Covington. SSA (23-14) moved to 9-2 in district and earned at least a tie for second place in District 4-I with one game left at press time against the district champion Fontainebleau Lady Bulldogs.

Covington (9-12) slipped to 3-8 in district and was scheduled to close out district play yesterday at home against Mandeville.

SSA’s Kristi Harrison topped the Doves with 12 kills and Meghan Clark tallied 32 assists. Clark also put down seven kills. Camille Walther netted seven kills, seven digs and two blocks.

Monque Giarrusso contributed 12 digs, while Christina Wurm came up with seven kills and two blocks. Whitney Amato added five kills for the Doves.

SSA coach Danny Davis said his club played well at times despite never being able to establish any consistency or rhythm.

CHS’ Rachel Smith connected for a double-double with 18 kills and 18 digs. She also produced three blocks. Caroline Smith delivered 18 assists, while Katie Robbins had 18 digs and 12 kills. Zhaniece Parker totaled six kills with five blocks. The Stewart twins played well with Holly netting 24 digs and her sister Hallie pulling up 22 digs.

Mandeville downs Northshore

Mandeville’s Lady Skippers defeated the Northshore Lady Panthers 25-19, 25-16, 25-11 in a district match Tuesday at MHS.

Mandeville (23-9) upped its district record to 8-3 in third place at press time with the district finale scheduled for yesterday at Covington High. The Lady Skippers trailed SSA by one game going into yesterday’s action.

NHS (11-14) was 4-7 in district heading into yesterday’s final district match with rival Slidell.

Sophomore Katie Lindelow sparked the Lady Skippers’ attack with 18 kills and senior Kelsey Sparks dominated play at the net with a match-high eight blocks. Nichole Freeman netted 21 assists.

Jess Himel registered 18 digs. Kristen Nelsen served six aces.

NHS’ Tory Hearn tallied six kills and one block, while Blair Doiron passed for 15 assists and pulled up three digs. Alexa Hardy had six digs, three kills and three blocks, while Lauren Davis added four kills and four blocks. Rachel Eberhard logged five digs.

Hannan captures district title

Archbishop Hannan captured the District 5-IA volleyball title yesterday defeating the Ecole Classique Lady Spartans 25-23, 25-22, 18-25, 25-21 in New Orleans Tuesday.

Hannan (12-12) moved to 5-0 in district play and at press time had one district game remaining yesterday against Bishop McManus on the road.

Junior Natalie Powell delivered eight kills and seven digs to lead the Lady Hawks to victory. Freshman libero Brooke Laigast pulled up 17 digs.

Senior Stephanie Gonzales recorded eight digs, two assists, one kill and one block. Kim Nillson had eight kills, two blocks and two aces, while Meagan Finch chipped in with nine digs and six kills. Senior Kimmy Kirsch netted 17 assists, four digs and two aces. Sydney Finch tallied four digs, two kills and one ace.

Hannan coach Jennifer Pujol said she was excited about her team’s effort and commitment.

“We played an amazing match with a high level of intensity and great teamwork. We fell behind at times, but the team never folded. They believed in themselves and earned a big victory,” Pujol said.

PRHS defeats Warren Easton

Pearl River’s Lady Rebels downed Warren Easton 25-9, 25-12, 25-18 in a district road match Tuesday. PRHS (22-5) was 7-2 in district at Thursday’s press time.

Carly Jordan put down six kills, while Shelby Walker dished out nine assists and had two digs. Katie Wallace totaled five kills, four aces, two digs and a block, while Catie Bennett posted five kills. Miranda Craddock had six kills. Whitney Harris served four aces and Taylor Peterson pulled up two digs.

Pope John Paul II wins over Albany

Pope John Paul II’s Paige Bourquard had 13 aces, 10 assists and eight kills, helping her team defeat Albany 25-11, 25-7, 25-4 in a non-district road match held Tuesday. PJP is 11-17.

Christa Roscigno totaled five digs, while Ashley Lang finished with seven kills.

First Baptist beats Bishop McManus

First Baptist Christian School’s Lady Eagles topped Bishop McManus 25-12, 25-5, 25-10 in a district home match held Tuesday. First Baptist (13-6) was 2-3 in district at Thursday’s press time.

Lauren Gaudin led the Lady Eagles with eight aces, while Hannah Jones totaled eight assists. Sarah Petty posted six digs and Sara Jones recorded four kills.
