The Covington Police Department reported that a motorcycle deputy with the St. Tammany Sheriff’s Office was injured when his motorcycle hit a pickup truck on Collins Boulevard near Lee Road Friday afternoon.
According to Capt. Jack West of the CPD, Deputy Tyren Bennett, 44 was escorting a funeral procession around 1 p.m. West said that a 1993 Dodge pickup truck, driven by Covington resident Wendy Steimile, 50, pulled out onto Collins Road and struck Bennett’s motorcycle. The impact caused Bennett to go over his handlebars and land about 10 feet away. West said Bennett went over the hood of the truck, and that is probably what save Bennett’s life, because he did not impact with the truck.

“He has some broken bones, but nothing life-threatening,” Bonnett said.
Steimile was not injured in the accident, but she was cited for failure to yield to an emergency vehicle.
