Ruth Eaton McLay, 85, passed away at home Monday, Nov. 2, 2009.

She was the beloved wife of John McLay to whom she dedicated herself during their 64 years of marriage. She was the mother of Grace Marietta Lannert (Dietrich) and Bruce Bussell McLay (Joyce); grandmother of Lesley Lynn Gastwirth (Jason) and Scott Rusch McLay (Sarah); and her recently born first great-grandchild, Ashlyn Janette McLay.

Throughout her life Ruth always cherished the memories of her youth and was diligent in preserving the family’s history. She was dedicated to communicating with family, lifelong friends and many people she met during extensive time in world travels. Ruth had a fond love of nature and family. She put others first until the end.

She was born in Ithaca, N.Y., and lived most of her married life in Albuquerque, N.M., and Holmdel, N.J. Ruth was a 1945 graduate of Cornell University where she studied theatre and dance. She participated in community theatre throughout her life and did extensive volunteer work at the Monmouth Museum and various nature societies in New Jersey. She relocated to Slidell, in May 2008.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a visitation from 10-11 a.m. Monday at Honaker Funeral Home, 1751 Gause Blvd. W. (in Forest Lawn Cemetery), Slidell. A memorial service will begin at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, make a donation to the charity of your choice.

Sheriff and Slidell police on the hunt for armed robber

The armed robber, who is suspected of two armed robberies last week on Brownswitch Road and Robert Boulevard in Slidell, is also suspected for the robbery of the Blockbuster Video store at the corner of Gause Boulevard and Military Road Wednesday afternoon.
