The seventh annual Carter Plantation College-Am Golf Tournament, hosted by Southeastern Louisiana University and Carter Plantation, is scheduled for today.
There is also college tournament on Monday and Tuesday. Registration for the four-person scramble begins at 11 a.m. with a 12:30 p.m. shotgun start. The entry fee is $175, which covers lunch, dinner, a golf tournament logo shirt, tournament logo cap, tournament logo golf balls and additional prizes. Each amateur will be paired up from the No. 1 player from the various college teams that are participating. Participants can register by downloading an entry form at www.LionSports.net. The Volleyball Institute of America is holding their annual tryouts for the upcoming 2009-2010 Club Volleyball Season. The 14-unders are today at Northlake Christian School. The times are 12:30-2 p.m. for 10-under, 2-3:30 p.m. for 11-12s and 3:30-5 p.m. for 13-14s. Tryouts for 15-18s are Nov. 17 at Franco’s Athletic Club from 6-9 p.m. and Nov. 18 at NCS from 6-9 p.m. Both tryout dates are mandatory. Special Olympics golf tournament scheduled
Special Olympics Louisiana and IREM Louisiana Chapter 55 is hosting the 15th Annual Special Olympics Louisiana/IREM Invitational Golf Tournament tomorrow at Beau Chene Country Club. The event is occurring to help raise funds for Special Olympics Louisiana and for the IREM Scholarship Fund. All participants will have a chance to meet Special Olympics Louisiana golfers. Registration begins at 10:45 a.m. with an 11:30 tee off. Registration for an individual player is $150 and sponsorships are available. Participants receive a gift bag and both lunch and dinner. Tennis tournament at Beau Chene Country Club
Beau Chene Country Club is hosting the NOLA Lending Group Team Tennis Classic Nov. 5-8. The cost is $85 or $510 for a six-member team. This is a mixed doubles event with each squad consisting of at least six players and you must be 21-years or older. The entry deadline is Nov. 2. There are five divisions, including 5.0, 6.0, 7.0 and 8.0. Participants may put together their own team, enter with a partner or as an individual to be placed on a team. Those involved will receive gift and ditty bags. There will also be a players’ party and silent auction that Saturday along with a TV courtside for LSU and Saints fans. Inline hockey clinic
The Southeast Louisiana Inline Hockey Club is hosting Peter Clinic Nov. 6-8 at the St. Tammany Arena in Madisonville. This clinic will be open to any and all players in southern Louisiana and along the gulf coast of Mississippi. There are three different clinics. There is a coaches’ clinic on Nov. 6 from 7-10 p.m. with a $30 fee. Nov. 7 is a boot camp for 8U and 10U with a $25 cost from 9-11 a.m. A 12U and up boot camp including goalies for $75 is occurring from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. There is also a separate goalie camp on Nov. 7 from 2-3 p.m., which is included in $75. Lakeshore High basketball clinic
The Lakeshore High School athletic department is holding a basketball clinic for boys and girls ages 5-12 from 9 a.m. to noon on Nov. 7 in the school’s gym. The entry fee is $25 and includes prizes. SYFA end of year celebration
The Slidell Youth Football Association’s cheerleaders are hosting an end of year celebration Nov. 7 from 5-9 p.m. at the SYFA fields right after the playoffs, which begin at 10 that morning. The event features family activities, including spacewalks, a boxing ring, bungee run, dunking booth. Admission is $5. Food and drinks are being sold separately.
Three Rivers Art Festival one mile and 5K races
The Covington Three Rivers Art Festival is now accepting entries for its annual One Mile and 5K races on Nov. 14. The One Mile race begins at 8 a.m., with the 5K kicking off at 8:30 a.m. Both races start at the Columbia Street Landing in downtown Covington. Registration applications are available at www.threeriversartfestival.com and www.15thstreetflyers.org. All pre-registered entrants receive a complimentary T-shirt on the day of the race. The deadline for early registration is Nov. 6. Entrants can also register in person on race day beginning at 7 a.m. Post-race refreshments, including food and beverages, will be available to all registered participants. Awards will be presented in a number of age categories for both males and females. Entry fees also vary by age, with a family discount available for those with multiple entrants from the same household.
Legends Thanksgiving Basketball Camp
Local head coaches in Mandeville’s John Priola and Fontainebleau’s Barry Dotson are conducting the Legends Thanksgiving Basketball Camp Nov. 23-25 at Pelican Park’s Brown Gym for children ages kindergarten-eight grade. There are three time slots, including half-days from 9 a.m. to noon or 12:30 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. There is also full day 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The cost of the half-day session is $75 without lunch and $90 with lunch. The fee for the full day session is $95 without lunch and $110 with lunch. Each camper receives a free T-shirt and they participate in daily competitions, games, contest, giveaways, and prizes. One mile and 5K races
Slidell High School’s Cross Country Team is sponsoring a 1-mile/5K run Dec. 5. The event begins at 10 a.m. on the school’s track. Registration runs from 9-9:45 on raceday. Early registration, which runs until Nov. 23, are encouraged through the school and cost $15. The fee includes a T-shirt. Registration at the race is $5 and doesn’t include the shirt. All money raised goes to the Cross Country Team.
Northshore Tennis Association offers youth program
The Northshore Tennis Association has an ongoing Junior and Mr. Pee Wee development tennis program for boys and girls ages 4-18. It starts with private or semi-private sessions to familiarize youngsters with tennis terms, stroke production and procedures. The year-round programs are held at the Kehoe-France Northshore School and public courts in Covington and Mandeville. Competitions are held for boys and girls 10 and under that have not been ranked on a state level and are new to tournament competition. Yearly registration is $25 and $5 and an unopened can of tennis balls is required per tournament or $8 total per tournament.
