Northshore girls win Northlake Regional

Northshore’s girls’ swim team captured the Northlake Regional Championship Thursday at Franco’s Athletic Club.

NHS won with 650 points, followed by St. Scholastica Academy (453), Mandeville (408), Fontainebleau (352) and Slidell (78) rounded out the top five in the 13-team field.

Pope John Paul II (36) was sixth, while Lakeshore (35) finished seventh and Pearl River High (24) took ninth. Covington (12) tallied 10th place, followed by Northlake Christian School (11) and Salmen (4) was 13th.

The girls’ side featured three double winners in Northshore’s Colleen Donovan and Heather Winn along with Fontainebleau’s Jessica Kopcso.

Donovan captured the 200-yard individual medley in 2:18 and the 100-yard freestyle (56.34 seconds). Winn took the 200-free (2:01) and 500-free (5:23).

Donovan and Winn were both on NHS’ winning 400-relay squad. Their teammates were Mary Jabbia and Maria Reyes. Jabbia was second in the 200-IM (2:19).

Kopcso topped the competition in the 100-butterfly (1:03) and the 100-breaststroke (1:09).

Mandeville’s Emma Levendoski was first in the 100-yard backstroke (1:00) and second in the 200-free (2:03), while teammate Jonna Frantz took the 50-free (25.18). Frantz was also second for the 100-free (56.36)

Levendoski and Frantz were both part of the Lady Skippers’ winning 200-individual medley relay team (1:57) and the 200-freestyle relay squad (1:44).

Their teammates for both events included, Emily Campell and Rachel Cole. Campbell was runner-up in the 50-free (25.75).

St. Scholastica Academy’s Brooke Vinturella won the 50-fly (29.75), while teammate Emily Prieto won the 50-yard back (33.28).

Also for SSA, Anna Thorson beat everybody in the 50-breast (39.84)

Sheriff and Slidell police on the hunt for armed robber

The armed robber, who is suspected of two armed robberies last week on Brownswitch Road and Robert Boulevard in Slidell, is also suspected for the robbery of the Blockbuster Video store at the corner of Gause Boulevard and Military Road Wednesday afternoon.
