Lafayette, the No. 11 seed, defeated the Covington Lady Lions 25-13, 25-10, 25-16 Thursday at home to advance to the regional round.

Lafayette (18-10) travels to Mandeville tomorrow afternoon to take on the Lady Skippers (24-9), a No. 6 seed, which drew a first round bye. The regional game at MHS is scheduled for 4:30.

Covington, the No. 22 seed, ends its season at 9-14 under coach Debbie Adams who returned to the program this season.

CHS junior Rachel Smith tallied 15 kills with nine digs and two aces. Freshman setter Caroline Smith delivered 16 assists, while freshman Hallie Stewart collected 15 digs.

Adams said she was proud of her players and what they accomplished.

“We will use the experiences gained by our athletes during the season and post season play as a jumping off spot for us next year. This was a very young, inexperienced team who learned the sport, each other, and their coaches in a very short season. I am looking forward to seeing the development continue,” Adams said.

Lafayette’s Frances Brumbley had 30 assists while Taylor Abraham netted 10 kills, and Aria Cormier added nine.

Gabby Dubroc came up with 11 digs, followed by Keisha Celestine and McKenzie John with six digs each.
