ALDRIDGE

Burch H. Aldridge, 93, died Nov. 13, 2009, after a short illness.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Gertrude Aldridge; daughters, Theresa Aldridge Landreth (Mark) and Lisa Aldridge; son, Philip Aldridge (Stephanie); and grandchildren, Katie and Kirby; brother James Aldridge and sister Hilda Barnett.

He was preceded in death by brothers, Wilfred Aldridge, Milton Aldridge and Harold Aldridge; baby, Richard Seale Aldridge; and sister, Ola Johnson.

Mr. Aldridge was born Sept. 16, 1916, in Danville, Ala., to Walter W. Aldridge Jr. and Mabel O. Aldridge. He graduated from Danville High School in 1935, entered the work force and enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1941. After his military service, he graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1950. He worked for the federal government for 35 years, retiring from NASA in 1985. During his time at NASA he was awarded a Snoopy, the astronauts’ award for performance.

He lived in Slidell since 1963 and devoted time to his church, gardening and his family. He received the Order of St. Louis from the Archdiocese of New Orleans in recognition of his service to the church. He was active in retirement and never gave up his lifelong love of learning.

Mr. Aldridge was a loving, kind and generous man and will be greatly missed.
